Downtown San Diego Clean and Safe hires Marco LiMandri
The amount of community maintenance done inside the office in all of the districts is truly outstanding. Interfacing with the city, writing letters to the community, having ideas -- there really just isn't enough time to get out there and clean those sidewalks. An added bonus, they actually save water this way instead of washing things (part of the "Clean" program might involve washing things, if you didn't get the bigger picture). See how effective planning is?— February 9, 2012 3:20 p.m.
Donna Frye muses on San Diego strong mayor and district elections
Can Donna run for the city council again? After all, she's had a vacation from what has to be the world's worst job for someone like her. We need her BACK!— February 6, 2012 3:18 p.m.
Let’s Build an Even Bigger Jack in the Box in North Park
The municipal code is the law. Not what you think is OK and not OK. Or is it?— February 2, 2012 2:57 p.m.
Committee Requests More Information on Managed Competition
This new computer system at the city - can't you just enter some parameters, and it tells you what you want to hear? Sort of like Amazon.com.— February 1, 2012 5:41 p.m.
Councilmember David Alvarez Says Community-Benefit Districts Will Help Galvanize Barrio Logan
In these MADs, BIDs, and PBIDs, money comes from all the taxpayers and goes to a few people. A few things get done in the process. Could you have swept the sidewalk yourself for $1000 a year? For $100 a year? Not up to you any more in any case. The "community" decides.— January 28, 2012 3:53 p.m.
Councilmember David Alvarez Says Community-Benefit Districts Will Help Galvanize Barrio Logan
A recent article about these MADs, BIDs, etc. in New York called them a "way for politicians to pay off community supporters." This isn't like David Alvarez; but I fear the end result will be the same.— January 27, 2012 5:12 p.m.
Councilmember David Alvarez Says Community-Benefit Districts Will Help Galvanize Barrio Logan
I hear that the unemployed SEDC Execs found guilty need jobs to make their payments to the city. This is perfect for them.— January 27, 2012 10:45 a.m.
City Attorney Says Snapdragon Deal Void
Signed by the City? A loopy handwriting that said "City of San Diego"? So, who signed it?— January 17, 2012 6:39 p.m.
The Push for Community-Benefit Districts in Barrio Logan
A lot of the money from these special assessments stays in an office somewhere - not much gets out there trimming trees and none can be used for private property (or should be). The house that has never been painted sits behind $1,000 worth of flower pots that contain straggly flowers watered at your expense. Be careful.— January 17, 2012 12:45 p.m.
Woman Comes Across African Crowned Crane on Her Driveway
San Diego is truly blessed with odd animals - a raccoon here, a possum there, a few coyotes. but this the the bird of all birds. I LOVED this article; not sure why, a sort of comment on anything can happen here.— January 9, 2012 6:14 p.m.
