City sued for failing to maintain swing sets in Mission Bay Park
I once heard that San Diego was phasing out children's swings because other people were using them to train attack dogs to attack the swinging swing seat. Looks like what happened in your picture. (No, I didn't say pit bulls, as you have MANY dog lovers who are also your regular readers, and I didn't want to offend them). This is a statement about people, not dogs.— February 16, 2013 4:03 p.m.
Ex-Sanders aide gets $6,000 a month for Balboa Park centennial role
Whatever happened to Andrew Donahue anyhow? He was a wonderful writer in his SD Daily Transcript days. VOSD has gone in a different direction since it started.— February 14, 2013 4:04 p.m.
Todd Gloria still ready to move forward on Plaza de Panama Project
Do you have a separate blog, or do you mean comments on Reader articles?— February 12, 2013 5:12 p.m.
When newspaper racks attack: UT San Diego named in two lawsuits for poorly maintained newspaper racks
You have a topic that not too many people care about - those ugly, repulsive, dirty news boxes. When you visit other cities, look around. These items (mostly free ads) are not on the public street - they are distributed inside businesses and other locations. But not here in San Diego. I detest the things, particularly when a community spends $2.5 MILLION to gentrify an area, and there these newsracks sit - front and center.— February 12, 2013 5:08 p.m.
Lobbyists use Twitter to rip Filner over downtown banquet speech
I would rather go to snake charming school with an emphasis on cobras than go to a Downtown San Diego Partnership dinner. Filner is a VERY BRAVE man.— February 7, 2013 2:59 p.m.
City Attorney says Mayor's questions about port appointment process "lacks merit"
Let's see. When this City Attorney's opinions cause the city go wind up in court, what happens? What are the win/lose statistics for political cases? (I'm not talking about when a tree falls on somebody). How has he done?— February 1, 2013 3:17 p.m.
Filner ends pot dispensary crackdown; U.S. Attorney Duffy yet to respond
You quote Bob Filner as saying "I plan to bring a proposed ordinance to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries to the San Diego City Council soon." Your headline says "Filner ends pot dispensary crackdown...." Does anybody else think these two statements don't provide the same picture of what is actually happening?— January 12, 2013 9:51 a.m.
Democrats rule in lucrative Filner committee appointments
The video tape is up, and it is better than anything on prime-time. See the City Attorney's true colors! See Todd Gloria in his glasses! See the council members who forgot that Filner won the election! See a real person with strength, facts, and persuasion, our new mayor and a new way of doing business in the City of San Diego.— January 10, 2013 1:52 p.m.
Fore!Ward thinking? City proceeds with expensive overhaul of Balboa Park Golf Course
The existing Golf Course club house could be beautiful, but has been deliberately not maintained to support the concept of a new one. With the wood panelling, river rock fireplace, and beautiful view across the canyons, I do not think it will survive the new "California Style" (I guess that means stucco) City building. I did not know the existing club house had the historical designation; the last I heard the plan was to tear it down. Has this changed?— December 27, 2012 10:55 p.m.
Doug Manchester's La Jolla restaurant Amaya rattles neighbors
This isn't a new idea. Wealthy owners can have a restaurant to entertain friends and guests without having to do it at home. The hotel built by Henry Huntington in Pasadena is reported to have been built by him for that reason. How nice to have a public place to cozy up to the people who are going to give permits for all those LED billboards he has in mind.— December 26, 2012 10:05 p.m.
