Downtown San Diego Partnership to spend $110,000 of PBID funds on Director of Homeless Outreach
Well, one good thing about Mayor Filner is that he does something instead of studying it to death. Take care of the seals - he said something like "I can go to Home Depot and get a piece of rope myself and it will be done." All this action makes people nervous I guess, who are used to another study as every solution.— June 4, 2013 2:10 p.m.
Downtown San Diego Partnership to spend $110,000 of PBID funds on Director of Homeless Outreach
These assessment districts always provide jobs for friends of friends. And if they are not hired directly, then the contracts go to a friend. Even the minimal contracting oversight provided by the city itself is lacking once the money flows to a community non-profit, who may or may not file IRS tax returns as required. Then a new board takes over, and all is forgiven by the city, and everything starts all over again.— May 28, 2013 6:38 p.m.
Cave rave at Sunset Cliffs attracts about 100 partiers
Perhaps the cops couldn't easily distinguish among the ravers, partyers, campers, and litterers, if I have the story straight, and so were unable to assign blame one way or the other by category.— May 28, 2013 4:15 p.m.
Construction allowed to begin...again on Centerpoint development near SDSU
Sounds great, but what did they actually agree to? Glad they are all happy.— May 24, 2013 8:44 p.m.
City Attorney finds gaps in Mayor Filner's effort to remove traffic from Balboa Park's Plaza de Panama
In Rome, Italy, the entire Via Imperiale closes every Sunday to automobile traffic - a lovely place to stroll and view the antiquities. Of course, Julius Caesar opened the nearby Via Appia some time ago, so they have had time to work out the kinks.— May 24, 2013 12:46 p.m.
Should San Diego dump its 30-year-old sign ordinance in portions of downtown to create an Arts and Entertainment District?
Didn't the Arts and Entertainment District just get overturned in Los Angeles? These districts have very strict guidelines from the state, which cities have consistently ignored. As long as the courts don't require the city to pay back everything they have collected from the property owner, then it's a gamble with no losses for the city. Why NOT play the game?— May 21, 2013 2:15 p.m.
City sued for halting construction on mixed-use project near SDSU
Well, Jerry Sanders did it. What about the Sunroad project near Montgomery Field? The mayor appears to be whimsical in the way some of these decisions are reported, but he probably had some legal advice himself before he took action.— May 20, 2013 5:55 p.m.
City Auditor says City and Zoo can keep better track of property tax revenues
The city has a history of not really following where the money goes. Not just for the zoo. Do we have a city zookeeper (that is, someone who watches the zoo)? And who is it, I wonder. Unlike the wastewater people, who have to go look into the sewers, the zookeeper could go audit the elephants. Glad to hear this is all going to be improved.— May 7, 2013 6:41 p.m.
City agrees to $120,000 settlement in lawsuit over downtown PBID overcharges
I would like to know more about the tort case. Has an article been written on it?— May 4, 2013 10:26 a.m.
Doug Manchester’s Grand Del Mar resort scoffs at permits
The scenarios that govern Code Compliance Action are convoluted. A violation for Doug Manchester provides a perfectly legal way for Mr. Manchester to give money to the city. It is hard to take anything at face value, with the cast of characters we have here. The best way for the TMD to publicize San Diego would be to make a mini-series about what goes on here. Set at the Grand Del Mar Resort, of course.— May 3, 2013 10:46 a.m.
