Can't get the homeless out of Fox Canyon
There is no help for private homeowners who deal with the problems on a personal and continuing basis, while a lot of money is spent on solving the problem of homelessness How can I get these people to those agencies. I would willingly send them to the immaculate offices that are supposed to be dealing with them.— December 8, 2018 11:56 a.m.
The problem with San Diego's historic neighborhoods
Anyone can apply for a Mills Act exemption. Is this not the case? So what is the purpose of the district? Some of you love it. You seem to really, really care what other people do with the property and your rights to adjudicate that. Some others DON'T.— November 20, 2018 7:22 p.m.
Smells bad on 30th and University
The city offers many services to help the homeless, but not many to help property owners who have to deal with them.— November 20, 2018 1:13 p.m.
The problem with San Diego's historic neighborhoods
My goodness! These people who want someone else's house in a historic district with historic designation really do care about what you do with YOUR private property, in addition to their own. That is what this is all about. If you think the city is going to take care of you and protect your property values, then a city district is for you. If you think the city is going to require money from you through a special assessment in order to preserve it the way the city thinks it should be - welcome to your future. Maybe getting everyone to chip in real money as the next step is what this is all about. Time will tell, but by then it will be too late. The article is valid as stated, and the Reader has done a valuable service, in informing people that there is more than a nice title - Historic District - that is involved here.— November 19, 2018 7:52 a.m.
I-5 has the worst litter, 805 is second
There is no help for property owners on the other side of the fence. No hotline to help them or tell them how to reclaim their property, who have to put up "No Trespassing" signs at the suggestion of the police, only to have them torn down the next day. How are property owners supposed to do what Caltrans is doing?— September 21, 2018 7:03 p.m.
Farewell to a professional love
Don, you are young by some standards. I like to think you will be back after a stint/stent to take care of things. We love you.— September 18, 2018 2:47 p.m.
Faulconer vacation rentals voted down —UPDATED
None of the AirBnB owners in my neighborhood are worried about this win for affordable housing. Nowhere does it say "six consecutive months" for residence that I saw. How do you prove vacancies and residency are two different things? There are too many ways to make this work for business as usual.— July 20, 2018 8:26 a.m.
Faulconer vacation rentals voted down —UPDATED
Thank you. Since Alvarez voted "No" on both, that puts a slightly different light on things for me.— July 17, 2018 3:34 p.m.
Faulconer vacation rentals voted down —UPDATED
Would you please verify your report on the vote? The UT tells us "Scott Sherman, David Alvarez and Chris Cate dissenting." Your article states "Mark Kersey, Chris Cate, and Scott Sherman". David Alvarez?— July 17, 2018 1:21 p.m.
Page 1 of CA Coastal Commission letter to city, sent out July 13 (Friday).
$15,000. a week - La Jolla (UT- Sunday, July 15). My neighboring vacation rental, a 3 BR 2 BA house, goes for $1200 a day. To serve the "low-cost" visitor, there is often a special for $7000 a week. Is this what the Coastal Commission really wants? I guess it is all in where you are coming from. The framers of the Coastal Act never envisioned AirBnB with those words. Venice, Italy is our example. With over 1,000,000 visitors, the permanent population is 100,000. They have had to set aside one of their islands as a laundry facility for sheets and towels. A $7000 per week house here can generate $360,000 a year for an investor. No ordinary family can compete with that investor for home ownership.— July 16, 2018 8:24 a.m.
