San Diego universities botch sexual assault investigations
Nobody addresses the real issue - alcohol consumption with the under 21 set. A college or university has many avenues, but shutting down alcohol consumption directly associated with students is not one of them.— September 7, 2015 3:38 p.m.
How many roads will $55.3 million repair?
Seeing what Todd plans to spend his $50+ Million windfall for would be very interesting. I hope a list of projects will be attached to any city council action. Why might I think that Street Repairs will be low on the priority ladder? Could it be past experience?— September 2, 2015 10:08 a.m.
Affordable housing expert slighted by KPBS?
Very few media sources are donation-independent. The Voice of San Diego once was. The Reader comes close to impartial, along with some of the Progressive blogs. Hilary said "It takes a village" but in San Diego, "it takes a court case" to effect change, and that's Cory Briggs.— August 28, 2015 7:53 a.m.
Suit alleges brutish Border Patrol behavior at sea
"The knot is a unit of speed equal to one nautical mile (1.852 km) per hour, approximately 1.151 mph. " If the firm filing the complaint doesn't know what a knot is, perhaps some Internet research would have helped them. This mistake does not enhance the credibility of the statement. More interesting is that we have both the Coast Guard and the Border Patrol in boats out there. How do they decide who does what?— August 25, 2015 6:08 a.m.
San Diego tourism marketing...like advertising birthday cake
When the City of San Diego collects money as taxes and turns it over to private individuals and companies to spend, all of the citizens of San Diego have a problem. The city's ability to hold these groups accountable for the money does not present a strong track record. A mechanism to hold the city and the recipient accountable does not exist today.— August 21, 2015 8:19 a.m.
AirBnB, the elephant in the room
There are thousands of houses being rented in San Diego tonight under identical circumstances. Legal or not, it isn't fair to this one woman. They are all advertised on the Internet. If every tourist in the country can find them, surely the City Attorney should be able to find them also.— August 10, 2015 4:55 p.m.
Navy Seal punches another San Diego immigrant
If I have this straight, Blackwell allegedly punched two different people. This is mostly about the first punch, but what happened on the second punch? We only hear the story as presented by the lawyer who is filing a lawsuit against Blackwell. Confusion where the District Attorney's office is concerned, about what punches were crimes and what punches were not crimes. Or maybe I'm confused.— August 4, 2015 7:55 p.m.
After 130 years, Daily Transcript going dark
Say it isn't so! I love the transcript! I love all the people who ever have worked there. It is delivered every day with a rubber band around it, the San Diego News is the best of the paper newspapers, it's the San Diego DAILY, except for Saturday and Sunday. My heart is broken.— July 22, 2015 5:14 p.m.
Putting the cart before the homeless
Once I took my son to the downtown library before the new one. He was old enough to go to the bathroom by himself. He came out to report that a man was taking a bath in the sink. I asked him how he knew that, and he said he had all of his clothes off, and was washing himself just like taking a bath. I suppose this was an educational experience, but not what I had in mind. We haven't been back. All of our libraries need to focus on being more welcoming to children.— July 20, 2015 5:23 p.m.
The girl comes and goes as she pleases
In many small businesses, mostly young people work without even knowing that they are independent contractors. Then the 1099 comes, and all of a sudden, they are responsible for ALL of their Social Security Contributions, plus any income tax (none having been with-held), and there is a rude awakening. At that point, they become un-employed, and a new generation of young (usually student workers) comes along to replace them.— July 18, 2015 9:13 a.m.
