Parkland push is on for Tijuana River Valley
At the north end of the valley there are several farming operations, including Suzie's Farm. I'm not sure what they're growing now.......— December 27, 2016 12:02 p.m.
Even drought-tolerant trees die in San Diego
Trees play a significant role in the Climate Action Plan; contributing more to GHG reduction than any local action except mass transit and increasing electric car charging stations. (CAP Table 3.1) There are plenty of trees that do fine in San Diego once established. I've planted six from three species: Pearl Acacia, Bottle Brush and Chinese Flame trees and they are thriving. The city has great recommendations for selecting trees, i.e. trees appropriate for the parkway space between the sidewalk and curb, And palm trees don't count. They're actually a part of the grass family.— December 22, 2016 9:56 a.m.

Surfrider's I.B. surf contest iffy
The International Water and Boundary Commission released this statement Monday afternoon: The cross boundary sewage flow at Yogurt Canyon at Border Field State Park continues, due to a collapsed sewer pipe in Playas de Tijuana. This has resulted in low flows inundating the access road to the Park. Mexico is replacing the pipe at a major road crossing in Playas IBWC and State Parks worked to remove about 30,000 gallons from the access road November 2-4 in anticipation of the binational event on Sunday 11/6/16 but Saturday the flow had inundated the road again. Mexico reported today that the pipe repair should be completed either late today or tomorrow.— November 7, 2016 4:26 p.m.

Surfrider's I.B. surf contest iffy
So, Yogurt Canyon is almost a quarter mile east of the beach, east of the Mesa where Friendship Park is. The road thru Border Field SP is at a low point there and it regularly has a couple of inches of water that came through from the south. It is NOWHERE near the beach and the pooled water doesn't drain into the ocean. Park boss Chris Peregrin tells people the water is full of sewage so he can close the road, but the park staff wasn't testing the water and instead misused county beach closure signs to express their opinions and turn people away. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2013/dec/23/st… Your tires are in danger. That's it. Short of a complete flooding of the valley, Yogurt canyon doesn't drain into the ocean. The pictures should show it with its occasional overlay of water.— November 4, 2016 8:52 p.m.

Dying to learn about Imperial Beach/border currents
Rory, I remember the South Bay Gyre from the sewage treatment plant outfall fight in the 1990s. Wasn't that you and Gary Sirota? The court shot the argument down saying it wasn't proven, if I remember right. And then it proofed up, if I remember right. .— September 6, 2016 12:26 p.m.
