Celebrity Idiots -- The Jamie Fox and Hulk Hogan Edition
Suzanne! I'm wounded!! Legally, "acquitted" does not equate to "innocent." And that is unfortunate, frankly, because it should. But the law does not look at it that way. O.J. Simpson's acquittal is a case in point. That's what I meant and I'm right. Please don't presume bone-headedness where none exists or is intended. I did free work for people who could not afford legal help and were incarcerated because I do whole heartedly ascribe to the presumption of innocence and it sickens me how so few do. Especially those bone-headed D.A.'s. I'll accept your apology anytime. :)— April 17, 2009 5:23 p.m.

JoshB wrote: "Well, I WOULD NOT understand the guy punching him. I WOULD NOT understand his anger. Because, I was angry too. But once he punches him, I can no longer say "I understand his anger," because that's saying/implying I think it was right for him to punch the guy just for making a bad foul call. Therefore, I WOULD NOT understand, just like I don't understand, OJs anger." Dead on...could not have explained it better. Hey magic girl, thanks for watching my back! xo to ya :)— April 17, 2009 5:20 p.m.
Water-Drinking, Tokyoites, Fart-Eating
George Carlin is a God. May he rest in peace...he'd probably make a joke out of that and it would be funny too. :) You could do a whole blog Josh entitled: "The Best of Carlin"...there would be no end to it.— April 17, 2009 5:08 p.m.
Juanita's Taco Shop Estilo Tepatitlán
Very authentic and fresh Mexican food. Served in healthy-sized portions with a smile by Juanita's family. It is easy to miss as it is a small building on the corner of Encinitas' main drag, but look for the blue and white shack and the line at the window. Very good food, very reasonably priced. Juanita started this little place after her husband died to support herself and her children. Since then it has become a neighborhood icon and was featured on a local TV show as one of the "must see" places if you find yourself in Encinitas. You cannot go wrong with any of their soups, fish tacos, or burritos. If you are looking for taco bell type nachos you'll be disappointed. You can't go inside, and the few outdoor tables they have on their little corner face a parking lot. But get it to go and walk down to the many picturesque oceanside viewing spots just a block or two away and enjoy!— April 17, 2009 3:41 p.m.
La Crisis-Recession or Depression?
As per usual, I am both swooned and humbled by the composition of your words. Exceptional! And you hit the nail on the head: "...they adapted." That is what we all have to keep in mind now, no matter what kind of life you had a short while ago, no matter what you trained to do or planned on doing to earn your daily bread...if that option is no longer available grieving won't fill your tummy or pay the mortgage. Bitterness over your lot won't get the job done. There is no shame in honest work. (I tell myself this daily). Throughout history those that adapted survived. Right now, even among all this sunshine, we still have to adapt. You were raised by noble people. You do them and their sacrifice justice.— April 17, 2009 3:13 p.m.
Del Mar Un-Fairgrounds
This area needs more convenient, affordable, and available public transportation period. Officials always fall back on the cost of doing so, but what they fail to take into account is while start-up costs may be heavy it is a cost effective investment into our community. Everyone benefits, something which Europeans have known since the last century. Businesses, Government coffers, commuters, students, the elderly, the otherwise home-bound, and let's not forget: the environment. The Earth! The air we breathe! Right now it costs more to take a trolley/Coaster combo to Carlsbad from La Mesa than it does to drive there. Not to mention, the increasingly limited service schedule only enforces an auto and fossil fuel dependent community. There is a growing need that is being wholly ignored, unless there's an election. Building new highways and byways, and repairing the infastructure that supports them, is not cheap either. It may be a catch 22, but at some point BEFORE gas prices go back up again I and many others would rally behind any political leader who didn't just talk about it but actually committed to making public transportation a feature in San Diego. It's doable, and way overdue.— April 17, 2009 2:50 p.m.
The Loss of "Cool"
Thank you JoshB and Magics5 for your kind words about my writing and state of "coolness"- (I'm blushing)...lol...but you might want to hold off on those opinions until and unless you ever meet me...lol. I have made my peace with it - it is more of a "feeling" than an outward perception I've made. "Cool" always took some effort, I will confess. Think I'm missing that gene...I loved both Star Trek and then Voyager (although I never went to the conventions); get excited about the Periodic Chart of Elements; and, used to write my law school papers while watching court TV - zowie! Now that's entertainment!! Never could stand the crowds at concerts (and do they have to be so loud?) I think I was doomed for dorkdom from the beginning. But so cool of you to console me otherwise. :) And Josh you are totally right about the gray-haired pony tail guys if the only reason they are wearing the "tail" is to look cool or younger. One can tell the difference. Up in Humboldt County that is somewhat the uniform...and some of those guys are true hippies who walk the walk and for some reason true hippies always seem cool to me. Unless of course they iron a crease in their jeans...lol. I do think there is something to that loss of cool being attributed to settling down and having children...a resignation of sorts....as you described your friend. Maybe responsibility marks the death of "cool." Hmmmm....— April 17, 2009 1:26 p.m.
Celebrity Idiots -- The Jamie Fox and Hulk Hogan Edition
Ovod: O.J. Simposon was not acquitted because "his killing was in the heat of passion" - acquitted does not mean "innocent," by the way. True love does not involve homicidal rage, violent abuse, or stalking. I know true love and emotionally healthy men can feel jealousy but not to the point of wanting to murder the object of their love. I think after reading more and more of what you write, the "I" work more aptly applies to you. It seems to me you just don't like being told you ARE WRONG by a woman. The jails are filled with your type of men who become nightmares for the unfortunate women who get involved with them. You come from the "Rule of Thumb" mindset, apparently. The World has moved past that mindset, well it is trying to anyway. At least it recognizes that it's wrong. You do not because you don't want to, and when called on it by other posters here you back pedal, insult, and equivocate. And it was NOT "speculation" that OJ beat his wife several times before she left him. There are police reports, witnesses, and pictures - hard, objective evidence - which demonstrates the guy was a violent Neanderthal, a ticking time bomb. His "passion" and "emotions" for his ex wife were not legal or moral justification for his violence. If Nicole Simpson were your daughter, would you still "understand" how OJ felt and continue to defend his crime of passion as you describe it? Of course not. So as Josh points out, Hogan is an IDIOT for publicly referring to OJ as someone he could empathize with or now understand. The guy just dropped into the toilet when he said that for many people...many thinking people. You don't know his ex-wife's side of the story. And you're living in la la land if you think she should remain chaste while he whores around just in case they get remarried. I think you'll say anything to defend your position. Josh you wrote that Ovod makes some good points...what are they? Other than the occasional 'period' I saw nothing he wrote that was good, valid, or even intelligible. Sorry, but his thinking process about violence against women you love has me furious. After professionally cleaning up the aftermath of such a philosophy, and knowing that such thinking leads to such horrific outcomes I can't help it. But I still wouldn't "slit his throat"....guess I don't really love him, huh?— April 17, 2009 12:33 p.m.
Domino's (the pizza, not the game)
So...? I'm on the edge of my seat. Did you get that 6 min. late pizza free?! "Jewy Jewstein"..LOL..priceless! I must be part Jewish as I would have done the same thing, especially when I was in college.— April 17, 2009 12:05 p.m.
The Loss of "Cool"
Okay, now THAT was pretty damn cool. Thanks LETTIER!!! (but I still won't wear my Vans :)— April 17, 2009 3:41 a.m.
