Oceanside Swap Meet sellers wait and wonder

Sanctuary city and pot become Vista fault lines
Councilmember Franklin wants it to be made clear that while Mr. Green supports Measure Z, the rest of the council supports alternate Measure BB which would only allow up to three non-storefront (delivery only) cannabis outlets and two testing labs. Appearing to speak for the entire council Mr. Franklin writes: "The Council understands that there are many voters who support legal access to cannabis, and so we've offered Measure BB as a reasonable alternative to an unreasonable proposal (Measure Z) offered by the Marijuana Industry. Voters need to understand that Measure Z reduces penalties for dispensaries that choose to locate next door to residences, churches and schools, to a $125 fine only. Businesses that make thousands of dollars each day will gladly pay the fines and residents will lose control over where marijuana businesses are located entirely."

Jim McInnes booted via Facebook from Jazz 88.3
Dan Fogel...The correct chronology as I recall is Jim came out here in 1974 from Madison Wisconsin to work at KPRI and then segued to KGB in 1976. Is Jim a diva because he wants to pre-record his show when everyone else at Jazz 88 does it live? I don't think diva is the right word. The man can rightfully do what he wants on Saturday nights. But for the love of god, couldn't Jazz 88 and Jim have worked out a deal to where he did the show at a different time so he could do his show live? Jazz 88 is all about live DJ's. That is what they stand for. Jim used to be about that. But he's not anymore. KGB is all about voice-tracked automation on nights and weekends. It seems everyone is now happy with their arrangement going forward. Everyone gets what they want. By the way, I hired KGB's Jim McInnes to host a concert on May 23, 1981 at Palomar College. The noon-to-sunset outdoor show featured 20/20 ("Yellow Pills"), Bratz, Tweed Sneakers, Incognito, This Kids and The Lobsters. That was two years before 91X. Oh, and get this strange twist: Jazz 88 comes in better in many parts of North County than KGB. (I also recall Jim's ex-wife Linda McInnes emceed a concert or two at the La Paloma Theater, but I can't remember which ones).

Jim McInnes booted via Facebook from Jazz 88.3
Ooops. Michael Halloran was never at KGB. And McInnes was not at KGB for 28 years. He was first at KPRI then went over to KGB. Knowing his aversion to doing live shows based on what this article says, Mr. McInnes should be happy at KGB: all the weekend DJs you hear on KGB are pre-recorded or "voice-tracked" as they say. Even the Monday-Friday nighttime DJ on KGB phones it in from another city.

UPDATED Dave Shelly and Chainsaw looking for a new radio home.
New KGB lineup: The DSC crew in mornings. Bob and Coe in afternoons. Clint is moved to middays and the Coppola guy who used to voicetrack his midday from out of San Diego has left the station. Unclear: what happens to Tommy Sablan.

UPDATED Dave Shelly and Chainsaw looking for a new radio home.
Kevin Klein Live (a low cost, hungry, younger-skewing morning thing) could have been on the air during these two weeks without DSC, doing major damage and establishing a local beachhead with new energy and a more urban, saucy delivery. But No. Entercom San Diego (Bob Bolinger and Kevin-from-Albany) went with Dan SIleo. What a way to top off your radio career guys! You can say DSC is old school and follows a predictable formula. But they are still smart, impromptu and do quality radio. And they get ratings. This was a rare opportunity for a competing group to make headway in a major market by spending little salary money but executing a little chutzpah and clever counter-programming. But no. The Padres made a pouty face. So Bob and Kevin reacted to their Padres bitch-slapping by sticking with Dan Sileo. I don't think anything else needs to be said: DAN SILEO. Bob and Kevin have their corporate careers defined by D-A-N S-I-L-E-O. It's almost like the gods wanted to protect DSC by keeping any would-be competitors like Entercom to exhibit weak and lazy decision making. Kevin Klein Live will never never beat DSC. But KKL could have been a huge sensation last week and this week while DSC was off the air 97.3 could have established some kind of footing going forward. But Bob and Kevin went with Dan Sileo. They didn't want to upset the Padres. Bob Bolinger started his career here by bringing San Diego's first major morning show, Murphy and McKeever to San Diego's Q-106 in the 80s. Thirty years later he's known for Dan Sileo. That's gotta hurt.
— July 31, 2018 11:44 p.m.
UPDATED Dave Shelly and Chainsaw looking for a new radio home.
The reality is that they just aren't making compelling morning shoes with a lot of moving parts like DSC anymore. There are fewer and fewer farm clubs out there developing new talent because radio in smaller markets are backing away from hiring and developing live talent. It seems to me that Entercom had a good idea with Kevin Klein Live, a snotty, younger skewing morning show with attitude. And by the way, the KKL show costs a fraction of DSC. When the Coronado jump issue came down, after the show got huge publicity, they balked on keeping KKL which seemingly would have given DSC a longterm run for its money especially with younger listeners. But Entercom got spooked by the Padres (which by the way is a ratings bust and which Entercom pays a lot to carry so Entercom shouldn't have to cave if the Padres says KKL hurts their feelings). Instead Entercom stuck with Dan Sileo. Are you kidding me? The only thing I can think of is Entercom will eventually bring back KKL to 97.3 (maybe as a syndicated show). But for now 97.3 is in second or third in a three way race. Can you imagine what KKL would have done this week and last week with DSC off the air?
— July 31, 2018 11:19 a.m.
Adios to longtime Oceanside
Yes concerned. Of course undergrounding is a good thing. But I think thins came up as an extra, unexpected expense after they already started the process. That's the issue.
— July 31, 2018 11:02 a.m.
UPDATED Dave Shelly and Chainsaw looking for a new radio home.
Soon after they are off the clock and no longer KFMB employees (August 1), expect KGB to start teasing about the arrival of a surprise to the 101.5 airwaves. Nobody can do anything until then. KGB/iHeart ad salesmen would not leak the news out of fear of litigation UNTIL WEDNESDAY. The interesting thing to ask DSC....iHeart is bankrupt. It owes $20-BILLION WITH A B. After all is said and done, what does it mean if you reconnect with heritage call letters when it involves a contract from iHeart? As Chainsaw would say, OH MY!!!
— July 27, 2018 10:07 a.m.
Adios to longtime Oceanside
Mr. Vilas- Yes, you are not the only one who I have heard from who said the undergrounding mandate is anti-business. But could I please remind you that if the state of California was a separate country, it would have the 5th largest GNP.

Oceanside Swap Meet sellers wait and wonder
It should be added that Zephyr CEO Brad Termini did not respond for a request for comment— September 14, 2018 10:22 a.m.
Businesses that make thousands of dollars each day will gladly pay the fines and residents will lose control over where marijuana businesses are located entirely."— August 23, 2018 7:03 p.m.
(I also recall Jim's ex-wife Linda McInnes emceed a concert or two at the La Paloma Theater, but I can't remember which ones).— August 9, 2018 8:46 p.m.
Even the Monday-Friday nighttime DJ on KGB phones it in from another city.— August 8, 2018 9:38 p.m.
Unclear: what happens to Tommy Sablan.— August 1, 2018 9:12 a.m.

That's gotta hurt.— July 31, 2018 11:44 p.m.
Can you imagine what KKL would have done this week and last week with DSC off the air?— July 31, 2018 11:19 a.m.
Adios to longtime Oceanside
Yes concerned. Of course undergrounding is a good thing. But I think thins came up as an extra, unexpected expense after they already started the process. That's the issue.— July 31, 2018 11:02 a.m.
As Chainsaw would say, OH MY!!!— July 27, 2018 10:07 a.m.

Mr. Vilas- Yes, you are not the only one who I have heard from who said the undergrounding mandate is anti-business. But could I please remind you that if the state of California was a separate country, it would have the 5th largest GNP.— July 26, 2018 12:07 a.m.
