How to deal with Oceanside homeless

digsblues....absolutely! As I mentioned, Tim from Bread of Life, while he does necessarily like the approach of some of those who post on the site, says he wants to understand where they are coming from and try to fix the underlying problem. Take Back administrator Drew Andrioff made it clear when violent posts are made, they are taken down and those posters are banned from the site. Also, there are some happy ending posts that make it on the site as does information on how people can be helped. It's just that some people see some of the photos and comments like "send them to Victorville" as bullying, kicking people when they down with a nice public shaming. Of course, public pooping and hypodermic needles are not acceptable. But some of the bile, especially directed to the good people of Brother Bennos, seems like a cheap and easy attack on people who are simply trying do good, and who seem to be doing better at getting their clients from loitering and leaving trash. But there are always bad apples who ruin everything -- bad apples who still leave trash and bad apples who like do violent acts directed at homeless -- who ruin it for everyone else. In no way does Take Back encourage violence. But in the past, those people have found Take Back Oceanside and have used it until they are kicked off. My feeling that by talking about all of this, we all can get a better of understanding of what is what.

What Santa Anita horse deaths mean for Del Mar

Senator Feinstein today reminded everyone what she said after Santa Anita suffered 23 deaths: that the racetrack should close down. Today she said: "Now that six more horses have died in just 23 days - 29 total deaths this season -- the track should suspend racing immediately." Santa Anita ownership said it will not close down even though the CHRB and Senator Feinstein said it should. The CHRB at this time simply does not have the legal teeth to close racetracks even if they become deathtraps. Now it gets real interesting. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (unlike the privately owned Santa Anita or Los Alamitos in Orange County) ultimately reports to the Del Mar Fair Board which is run by nine political appointees (who all happen to be appointed by Democrat governors). That very same Del Mar Fair board voted to stop gun shows at the fairgrounds. How will they respond to this challenge if horses start dying again in Del Mar. Guns bad....dead horses OK? It is my impression the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will not want to be defiant.

What Santa Anita horse deaths mean for Del Mar

Since this article came out on Friday two more horses, numbers 28 and 29 have died. The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) subsequently asked that the track be closed for the last seven days but the owners of the Santa Anita said no. If you ask me, that in itself seems like a major PR mistake. The new California legislation when passed/signed would give the CHRB power to shut down racing meets that are connected with too many deaths. Del Mar Thoroughbred's Mac McBride wanted to make clear that the crazies he referred to were not the PETA people. PETA spokesperson Guillermo said that not all of the protesters were in fact connected with PETA. One person connected with the industry said the photo of the horse with screws in its leg was "almost 20 years old."

Larry Flynt tries Oceanside

BradH - You are not correct. The city council definitely does not want there to be a Hollywood Hustler especially at this location. This is based on my conversations with them. There does exist a fear of lawsuits from litigious-prone Flynt, but I think it would be hard for Flynt's people to convince a judge that double-headed dildos are not in fact adult-oriented. Approving short term rentals is a completely different issue. You may in fact have a valid gripe but trying to connect it to this is apples/oranges in my opinion. (Not sure of spelling...is it dildos or dildoes?...Where is Dan Quayle when you need him?)

Visduh...of course. It would have good if the lady at the door could have directed me where to go to get these questions answered. Also, the bigger question is how is it that a skin patch company can support a 14,000 square foot building, and, why do we need a fentanyl patch when morphine is plenty strong? Good questions but no way to answer. The DEA agent called me back today and said she would right back. No answer.

Curtain closes on Scott Kaplan of Mighty 1090

Although John Lynch has been showing up at the BCA studios for the last month or so, I was told this weekend by someone from within the 1090 group that Lynch actually has no realistic chance to put 1090 back on the air because he has not put together the backing and because the owner of the transmitter would probably not want to deal with anyone connected with BCA going forward since he was burned by BCA for non payment. Lynch helped launch BCA. If Kaplan and company is the only group in the mix, that could mean two things: A/If they are the only group, that means the Mexican owner may be realistic and come down to earth for what he can realistically ask to rent his facility. If there is no one out there willing to pay $75k, it may make it easier for Kaplan. But also.....B/ If it is just Kaplan et al trying to resurrect 1090, this may help the The Fan 97.3's position as it negotiates to hire 1090's talent no longer on the air. Entercom, which owns and operates The Fan 97.3, is nationally not known for paying well. Entercom may use the fact that 1090 is doomed to their advantage. Also, the person from within 1090 wondered (while admitting he does not know for sure) that if BCA hasn't paid its 1090 lease fees since December, what's to say they won't be evicted from their Sorrento Valley headquarters since they probably have not paid rent either. Does BCA even exist anymore? Kaplan said on the air his BCA contract is no longer in effect which suggests he might be working for free. If eviction happens, then it would be really hard for the guys to even stream their shows if they don't have a studio. Then The Fan would really be in the driver's seat. This is all so weird.
