Booze-smoking head scratcher

They seem to be consistently protested, but the police's hands, as well as the ABC, appear to have their hands tied as far as reasons to deny them. This wasn't in the article because it was far too long as is, but the ABC is actually working with Los Angeles to deny alcohol licenses now. Los Angeles put together a task force that highlighted all the blatant violations at hookah lounges and most importantly they strengthened their municipal code.

Grace Brethren Church in Clairemont to subdivide property

No one on the project team (land owner, project engineer, or builder) would go on the record. We don't know what their actual configuration will end up being. The current zoning allows for up to 30 feet with a floor area ratio that lends itself to larger homes. They are speculating on perhaps 6,244 sf lots The developer is focusing on vacating the street and getting the subdivision approved before the land can be sold to them. We won't know details until that time.

Puppy-mill puppies still sold in National City?

Millions of shelter animals are killed every single year (aprox 10,000 per day) in this country. A lot of factors play into those numbers - but to breed animals for profit when so many animals die is unconscionable. A lot of animals that are used for breeding, as well as those born for profit, end up on death row in shelters. There are people in San Diego that devote their time and resources to rescuing animals. This is where you should be adopting from. As someone that has rescued and fostered animals, I can tell you that fosters will know an animal better than an employee in a shelter. A fostered animal is in real world situations. No animal behaves as they really are in a shelter environment (it's a scary place for animals). The foster usually only asks to be reimbursed for their expenses for caring for that animal so they can use those funds to rescue another animal. You will be saving more than one life when you get an animal from a foster or rescue organization. That foster can now make room for another animal - that rescue can now rescue another animal. But not all fosters or rescue organizations are legit, so trust your instincts. If you buy an animal from a breeder, you are not only supporting an industry that is not much better than factory farming, you are choosing to let another animal die in a shelter. One that was abandoned by another human - sometimes that very breeder you are buying from.

Artificial turf trouble at Loma Portal Elementary and Euclid Elementary

There are several proposed projects listed for Robb Field - page 3 of 6 of the city (not SDUSD) proposed project list talks about stadium-style improvements with synthetic turf in Robb Field. This is a list of unfunded projects, so unsure when this one might move forward (there are several proposed projects with "synthetic turf" or "artificial turf" mentioned for different parks). As far as the environmental cost of one artificial field needing the planting of 1800 trees to offset its carbon footprint (over 8 years) as well as the g-max (shock absorption testing) that the SDUSD hasn't done in eight years (the NFL does it before every game) and the fact that watering down a synthetic field to decrease heat hazards only lasts 20-30 minutes weren't included in the article (as well as many other things) because it's just not possible to include everything in one article.
