Just keep toilet out of the title

Just keep toilet out of the title
Louis, that is a good point. Constituents are very concerned about a high pressure line being so close to the surface. This was a huge objection that seemed to have been lost on the powers that be. The concrete/steel sleeve got a bit more attention but it didn't seem like that is in the cards because of cost. I haven't heard a rationale for not doing it that has made sense yet.

Clairemont braces for homeless housing
Per a resident at the event on April 10, more than 200 people attended. SDG&E shut it down because the room only had a capacity for 40. A resident said more people were still coming in when she left. The event will be rescheduled sometime in Mid-May. Clairemont residents have since started a Facebook page "Clairemont Cares" to ensure everyone stays informed and can be able to better organize and rally when needed. Per councilmember Chris Cate: “Last evening, I joined hundreds of District 6 residents to learn about a proposed development on 5858 Mt. Alifan Drive in Clairemont. Due to heavy interest of this project, the open house, hosted by Wakeland Housing Development/PATH, had to be rescheduled. Unfortunately, District 6 residents were not given the opportunity to have their concerns heard. After hearing from those in attendance, I, too, share in their concerns and have questions. While the Wakeland Housing Development/PATH project proposal has not been officially submitted to the City’s Development Services Department, I will ensure that during the development and submittal process, the developers be held accountable to work with the community of Clairemont. As the councilmember for District 6, I will continue to advocate on behalf of all neighborhoods. I will continue to monitor this situation closely and give regular updates to the community,” stated Councilmember Chris Cate.

Baby rattler at my door
My brother saw a baby rattlesnake this weekend in Bay Park. They are so tiny - here's one so you can see how small they are.

Clairemont: Touch and Go needs to go
Ray Richmond, General Manager for CrownAir Aviation, wanted to clarify a few things: What is often misunderstood about General Aviation airports is the critical role they play in our communities. Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport is the base for several operations that are very important to the City of San Diego. Below are some examples: - This airport is the base for the City of San Diego’s Airborne Law Enforcement (ABLE) operation. These are the police helicopters that support the Police department’s role in providing public safety for the entire City of San Diego. The City is fortunate to have this airport to serve these needs. - This airport is the base for the City of San Diego’s Fire and Rescue helicopter operations. Its central location makes it the ideal location for these operations as well. - Several Air Ambulance companies use this airport to transport sick and injured patients to and from local hospitals. Rady Children’s Hospital and Sharp are within just over a mile’s distance and helicopter and airplane crews are based at the airport 24/7 to support this need. - Planes arrive and depart throughout the day and night from this airport transporting donated organs due to its proximity to several local hospitals. - The airport is used by several federal law enforcement agencies for their airborne operations. - Many of the students learning to fly out of Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport are veterans being trained to fill the shortage of commercial pilots.

Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
New architecture with no soul sucks. We need a mix of eras in our city. Otherwise, we are just a city full of cookie-cutter nonsense with no personality - it's a form of gentrification.

Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
I am a native as well, as are my parents. My family has been here for more than 100 years on both sides. There's so few empty parcels in many parts of town. The only way for the development machine to make any bank is to find parcels that they can develop so as to turn a profit. It's a better return on investors money than most. I just wish some would be transparent and take the neighborhood into consideration more. Developers that are transparent and go to the community early usually fare better than the ones that try to be sneaky about it. I get why they do it though. Public input is very expensive. That's why developers build "apartments" to condo standards and then apply for map waivers so they can sell them. No public input + building the condos = map waiver after it's built (then with public input, but by then it's too late). It's loads cheaper that way, but it pisses people off and makes it harder for good developers to regain that trust when they come in. That cost-saving expediting is usually at the cost of public input. Some developers are wise enough to go to the public and give them a heads-up even when they don't have to. Some do it super early before they even have designed anything or submitted anything to the city. Those developers get a lot more respect than the ones that don't. It's the smart way to go. People want to feel they are heard, that they matter. Especially when someone is redesigning their neighborhood or in this case something that is such a part of the fabric of Ocean Beach. Most developers seem to do it behind closed doors, get the city onboard first and then go the public if they have to. By that time they don't care what the public thinks and they are just doing it for show. So often the city forgets that "we the people" are their real clients, they are supposed to have our backs, but their salaries are paid by fees from developers so, yeah. The one question that every developer should answer before starting a project is "How will this benefit the neighborhood." It's Marketing 101 - create benefit statements. I did marketing for years and years, helped my firm win millions in contracts. I never went into something without knowing how a project benefits whoever we were pitching. You do your due diligence so you know these things. I think developers are missing the boat when they don't do this.
— March 17, 2018 6:37 a.m.
Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
Progress is a part of life. But it's important to honor the shoulders we stand upon. Always. I would hate to live in a city where all the structures were new. I mean, if new is better, why not just bulldoze Balboa Park and build condos? Which, you know someone would totally be down with in a hot minute.
— March 17, 2018 6:19 a.m.
Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
El Indio doesn't cut it anymore. It's sad. And you are right, Cali has their own type of Mexican food. El Indio's chips used to be shipped to the White House. My grandmother learned how to make tortilla chips from the inventor of the Caesar salad. My dead grandmother makes better chips than El Indio.

I haven't heard a rationale for not doing it that has made sense yet.— April 16, 2018 8:30 p.m.
I will continue to monitor this situation closely and give regular updates to the community,” stated Councilmember Chris Cate. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/a…— April 13, 2018 10:26 a.m.

Baby rattler at my door
My brother saw a baby rattlesnake this weekend in Bay Park. They are so tiny - here's one so you can see how small they are. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/a…— April 3, 2018 3:41 p.m.
- Many of the students learning to fly out of Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport are veterans being trained to fill the shortage of commercial pilots. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/m…— March 22, 2018 7:37 a.m.
Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
New architecture with no soul sucks. We need a mix of eras in our city. Otherwise, we are just a city full of cookie-cutter nonsense with no personality - it's a form of gentrification.— March 17, 2018 6:42 a.m.
I think developers are missing the boat when they don't do this.— March 17, 2018 6:37 a.m.
Does Nati's new owner have his eye on nearby parcels?
Progress is a part of life. But it's important to honor the shoulders we stand upon. Always. I would hate to live in a city where all the structures were new. I mean, if new is better, why not just bulldoze Balboa Park and build condos? Which, you know someone would totally be down with in a hot minute.— March 17, 2018 6:19 a.m.

El Indio doesn't cut it anymore. It's sad. And you are right, Cali has their own type of Mexican food. El Indio's chips used to be shipped to the White House. My grandmother learned how to make tortilla chips from the inventor of the Caesar salad. My dead grandmother makes better chips than El Indio.— March 17, 2018 6:16 a.m.
