Montgomery Adult School’s last Viva Vida conference?
Not only do many people mature a little later in life, they also get laid off due to downsizing, etc., and need to retool in their attempt to get back into the workforce.— April 27, 2013 1:01 p.m.
Sweetwater school district board seeks to silence opposition
mko: Regarding your comment on Mayor Cox's speech, I'd say probably nothing compares to how terrible Sweetwater has been managed, and as far as we know, the elementary district's superintendent isn't using intimidation as a means to control the ranks. However, to cite Sweetwater's drop-out rate (20%) in the context of comparing districts, is a bit of a stretch. Elementary kids CAN'T drop out. Like bvagency, I am disappointed that none of our elected officials, in any of the city's that SUHSD serves, have done anything to intervene. By the way, I congratulate trustee Bertha Lopez for speaking out in this article.Where are the rest of them?— March 17, 2013 11:13 a.m.
Southwestern College trustee resigns in protest
Sjtorres: Teachers' working conditions are students' learning conditions. An important link between working conditions and productivity has long been established. Let's hope the teachers' union continues to work hard for both working conditions and thus student achievement. By the way, instead of attaching negative labels to people, why not comment on Ms Nish's dissertation abstract? Also, your name calling diminishes any chance you might have to convince anyone of your ideas or positions.— March 3, 2013 11:46 a.m.
Southwestern College trustee resigns in protest
Nickdanny writes: "She (Nish) spent several years researching how to isolate opposition and force them out of an institution." Hmmm, this sounds very familiar. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2010/aug/17/is…— March 2, 2013 5:34 p.m.
Southwestern faculty questions college’s education plan
SouthBayVoters: Great comments! Your examples of how our community college has benefited many says it all. This business of using outsider consultants must be stopped. Leave the "business model" to the entrepreneurs who only care about their bottom lines and profits, and let's get back to what has worked for so many years.— February 27, 2013 9:31 a.m.
Southwestern College may trim faculty to reduce costs
It's beginning to appear that maybe we weren't duped by Prop 30 after all, but let down by the college administration's misplaced priorities and the mispending of the monies generated. Same problem in Sweetwater.— February 21, 2013 1:35 p.m.
Southwestern College may trim faculty to reduce costs
By saying, “An information discussion of workforce reduction does not mean we stop negotiations or the meet-and-confer process”, superintendent Nish may as well be holding a baseball bat while saying "let's talk". This threat must be gut wrenching for college employees who must be feeling as duped as the voters who supported Prop 30. What's surprising is many felt that the college was on a different path since the ouster of Chopra's regime, and that these tactics were a thing of the past.— February 21, 2013 8:37 a.m.
Sweetwater school district’s weird, failed real estate deals
oneoftheteachers: So class-sizes are rising while the district plays "Monopoly" with taxpayers' money. Though some, like San Diego Unified's new CFO, Stan Dobbs, say class size doesn't matter, there are studies supporting that it does. SDUSD superintendent Kowba later apologized for his CFO's false assertion: [From the Voice of San Diego-Feb 7, 2013] Dobbs is incorrect that class sizes do not affect student achievement. There is a "body of research supporting smaller class sizes," Kowba writes.— February 8, 2013 11:40 a.m.
Sweetwater board meeting times may change
Was anything said about Grand Canyon University at last night's meeting? Did the board speak to the legality of a public school district recruiting students for a religious institution?— January 29, 2013 2:51 p.m.
Sweetwater U partnership opposed by Freedom from Religion
Has the district publicly disclosed any financial interest in this?— January 18, 2013 10:16 a.m.
