We don’t want the stinkin’ charter expansion
I'm pleased to read that interim trustee Susan Hartley questioned throwing money at this charter expansion. Finally, a school board that isn't just going along to get along. I noticed that the vote was 5-0. How has John McCann voted on this in the past?— July 17, 2014 11:56 a.m.
Who’s minding the jewels?
Does anyone know if the district solicited competitive bids for the entitlement-consultant's $82,500 contract?— July 11, 2014 12:19 p.m.
Who’s minding the jewels?
The media acts as the eyes, ears, and voice of the community. Mr. Diamond and Mr. Hernandez, when you and your partners are paid $82,500 (or any amount of money) by the taxpaying public, you have an obligation to answer their questions. Your excuse that you must follow "el jefe's" orders is pathetic and should be illegal.— July 10, 2014 7:43 p.m.
Ed Brand’s time at Sweetwater is over
ensenadamaria: Like you, I'm trying to understand the interim board's thinking. We will now be paying Tim Glover to do the work of the superintendent who was gifted a paid vacation. Then, John McCann says Brand could be brought back as a consultant (KPBS article). That really doesn't make any sense at all. Why would you solicit input from someone you've just sent away. Then I read that Tim Glover's brother, Thomas Glover, is a high school principal in the district (Castle Park High). Was that disclosed at Wednesday's meeting? I listened to the tape but didn't hear it mentioned.— July 3, 2014 8:47 p.m.
Ed Brand’s time at Sweetwater is over
So, for all of his bad deeds Brand gets a paid vacation. Isn't this a gift of public funds? Isn't that illegal? He should at least not be able to stay home, sleep in and collect his absurd salary and benefits. He should have to report to work. How about having him tutor or do *something*, anything, to contribute to the "Sweetwater family"? He must be laughing all the way to the beach.— July 1, 2014 5:37 p.m.
Education, a dead-end business
Sweetwater's interim school board should act like someone you've asked to watch your house while you're away. They should see that it's safe and functional, but please, no sales or remodeling, thank you.— June 29, 2014 5:28 p.m.
Whoa, Vergara
Something I believe we've learned from this and the Sweetwater/Southwestern corruption cases is the importance of paying attention when judges are up for election. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait quite some time before Espana (2016) and Treu (2021) might run again.— June 26, 2014 1:05 p.m.
The piper must be paid
anniej: "While some may curse the efforts of those who have worked for the past 5 years…" ARE YOU KIDDING!? This community owes all of the "antagonists" a big THANK YOU for all of their hard work.— June 21, 2014 7:49 p.m.
New Sweetwater boardmembers pitch in to money pit
Ed Brand says he wants to "unwind" what trustee McCann calls a "bad" deal. However, acquiring a building to house new district headquarters in eastern Chula Vista is another bad deal, especially for the people living in Imperial Beach, National City, and western Chula Vista. The L Street property is at least centrally located and more accessible. Of course, this district has never wanted to make it easy for the public to attend board meetings.— June 10, 2014 6:29 p.m.
Sweetwater chaos reaches Judge España’s court
I wonder if all of the other defendants have been on the phone with their attorneys asking if the judge's admitted incompetence might have an effect on their cases. I believe there's one more resignation in order here.— May 9, 2014 3:09 p.m.
