Voiceless children of San Ysidro
AlexClark: P.S. I do agree with you on one point however, give the teachers a raise!— October 12, 2014 10:56 a.m.
Voiceless children of San Ysidro
AlexClark: "illegal children"? That kind of thinking would be dismissed as simple ignorance if it wasn't so dangerous, not to mention un-American. Your attempt to divert attention from the fact that these teachers have been victimized by corruption and mis-management is pathetic. By the way, Mr. Cameron (interim-superintendent and candidate for Chula Vista School Board ), who won't come out of his office to talk to parents, is exactly what the Chula Vista Elementary District DOESN'T NEED. I guess we're lucky that he has shown his true colors before the election.— October 12, 2014 9:22 a.m.
Sweetwater board candidate stumps on civility
oldchulares: Yes, he should have left or been forced to leave politics when he pleaded guilty. I hope it has sunk in that this is a man that pleaded guilty and is on probation for his crime. In most cases, people would avoid the services of someone or an establishment "on probation" for criminal activity. I guess it's up to the voters to do what the inept judge Espana didn't do to keep this criminal out of public office.— September 25, 2014 6:18 p.m.
Sweetwater board candidate stumps on civility
Obviously, Ms Adato had every right to speak out in the manner that she did. Mr Cartmill's omission of what preceded her comment in his campaign pitch is about as sleazy as it gets. oskidoll, your comments are right on, however we don't have to throw the bum out, he already has been thanks to Ms Adato and the other concerned citizens who went to the DA. If it wasn't for a weak judge, he wouldn't be on the ballot.— September 25, 2014 11:29 a.m.
These are the monsters, Mayor Cox
Eastlake Action Group: Is there any specific action the city council could take to stop this? Are there any candidates who aren't in the developers' pockets that are willing to take a stand? I certainly hope so. Elections are right around the corner. Could there be time to rescue one of our city's gems?— September 21, 2014 9:23 a.m.
Busy week at Sweetwater school district
It's become clear now why the district decided to start putting cell tower revenues into the special fund 40 established for real estate transactions. The 3/4 million dollar buyout alone will take years of rent to pay E2ManageTech off. Will we see more towers on school grounds in order to feed this money pit? Probably, and that would be money that should be making it to the classroom instead of the pockets of parasites like Mr. Diamond. In addition, and more disturbing, is the potential health risks of high frequency radio waves which have been conveniently swept under the table. Oh that's right, not enough studies have been done to prove they're dangerous. Cigarette, anyone?— September 7, 2014 8:43 a.m.
Pimp hand strong in Chula
You're right, anniej. "Educating" attendees seems a bit condescending, and let's hope forums are held in all areas of the Sweetwater District.— August 26, 2014 8:42 p.m.
Democracy costs, even in Chula Vista
At least three council members displayed confidence in the voters' ability to understand what they voted on the last time around and didn't need another chance to "get it right". Being elected by minuscule turnouts is far from participatory democracy. The Chula Vista mayor might think that voting is a privilege but I consider it a right and a responsibility Here's a link to an interesting article in the Atlantic regarding this: http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/…— August 8, 2014 4:53 p.m.
33% of the profit? No problem — hey!
As it gets closer to decision time, the voters must know where those running stand on the important questions. Transparency, integrity, truth, justice and the American way may sound great and form a wonderful word cloud, but what we don't need is hollow campaign rhetoric. We must insist each candidate state their positions on issues like those raised by eastlaker and others: Are they in favor of or opposed to charter schools? Will they advocate for safe and sensible bus routes? How do they propose to fix our real estate mess? Will their first priority for spending be in the classroom? Will they push for a forensic audit? Integrity, honesty, etc. should be a given. It's time to talk issues.— August 1, 2014 9:10 a.m.
Sweetwater land deals — the beef goes on
oldchulares has the right idea, an injunction to stop this project is in order. Where is the list of possible uses acceptable to the community for this surplus property as mandated by the ed code? The public was presented with what appears to be a done deal, except for maybe where to put the pool. [ From the ed code link] *17390. The school district advisory committee shall do all of the following: (b) Establish a priority list of use of surplus space and real property that will be acceptable to the community. (c) Cause to have circulated throughout the attendance area a priority list of surplus space and real property and provide for hearings of community input to the committee on acceptable uses of space and real property…...*— July 24, 2014 10:43 a.m.
