Land sakes, Sweetwater, get it together
anniej: You are absolutely right about the county interim board and John McCann voting on this issue in November ONE MONTH BEFORE OUR NEW BOARD TOOK OFFICE. Their interests were obviously linked to the old guard. I'm counting on our newly elected trustees to step up and turn this around. Let's see what happens at Thursday's meeting. Does anyone know if any board members will attend? If so, hopefully they will speak up and represent the majority that elected them.— February 4, 2015 6:48 p.m.
Don't mess with Texas' labor pool
Sweetwater needed someone to guide the district until they found a new superintendent, and Tom Glover must have known that when he took the temporary position. His leaving prematurely so as to better his chances as a potential candidate for the permanent position demonstrates a lack of commitment to the district in favor of his personal gain. Everyone seems to agree that he's a great guy, but while "the jury is still out", as miagd wrote, this seemingly selfish act must be taken into account and his original intentions questioned.— January 31, 2015 8:47 a.m.
Okay…we'll take Steve
It seems that Mr. Miesen will be recusing himself quite a bit from council decisions since, according to this article, not only does he work for Republic Services, he owns stock in it too. Residential or commercial, all developments need their trash hauled. This seems like a big mistake.— January 20, 2015 6 p.m.
Condition: bleak
It’s really troubling to learn of the huge amount of money that’s been wasted on real estate speculation. The good news is it appears the new board will keep the district’s headquarters on the west side.— January 16, 2015 1:03 p.m.
Horton's at the door
So, Horton’s inspiration to apply for the council seat came from attending the H Street extension ceremony. I wonder if the vision of bay-front dollars going to her developer friends was just too much to resist?— January 10, 2015 5:01 p.m.
Gargantuan grocery-store shakeup
Does anyone know the fate of the employees? Will they all be retained, and will the new owners recognize their union and honor their contract?— January 7, 2015 8:32 a.m.
The vote swinger
Appointing someone to fill the vacant seat is becoming less likely considering how long it will take to determine who won between Padilla and McCann should Moot's challenge prevail. The council has, I believe, 45 days to appoint, and as visduh points out, this lawsuit could drag on for some time. If they decide to appoint before it’s settled, do they risk having their appointment reversed if McCann is ousted? It seems there's a good chance that when they consider their options, the council will choose to go with an election. After reading erupting’s post, you have to wonder if this legal challenge was simply a page out of the Chula Vista Politicians’ “ploy” book.— January 5, 2015 9:03 a.m.
Everyone need not apply
18,446 Chula Vistans voted for Steve Padilla in this recent election. He received only two votes less than his opponent. Maybe he should be seated to fill the vacancy without restrictions. Short of a special election, this would be a way of respecting the wishes of the people, and prevent political favoritism.— December 31, 2014 12:48 p.m.
Lost the election, won the plum
Does anyone know where the minutes to these group-of-mayors' meetings can be found?— December 8, 2014 12:45 p.m.
It would have been prudent...
correction: junior-engineer— November 25, 2014 4:31 p.m.
