Prop R, for Rewards at Southwestern College
O.K. Founder, I'm starting the homework assignment. 1. Was superintendent Chopra on the Foundation's board of directors when they gave money to support this bond? 2. Who are the guys in the article's photo?— September 16, 2010 10:10 a.m.
Isolate, Expose, Avoid
First of all, I appreciate how the author puts so much relevant information in so little space. #12 should click on all of the author's articles and they will find many lengthy ones as well. Regarding the real issue and not the irrelevant name calling/ blogger bashing, I ask why, since Prop R was already approved by the voters, did SWC adminstrators approve the spending of precious funds during these hard times? What a waste!— August 18, 2010 11:46 a.m.
Southwestern Suitors
Commenters #1 and #3 either just don't get it or are attempting, rather poorly, to distract from the main point of the story. As I read it, the article is questioning the relationship between those feeding at the Prop R trough and those who are feeding them. We have a serious problem when School Board members are awarding contracts to those who are financially supporting their reelection.— August 12, 2010 2:07 p.m.
Southwestern College's Proper Snack Bar
I like Founder's term "Professional Damage Control Consultants". SanDiegoBorn#19 makes it sound like the college just needed some help with media relations when in fact the consultant's website says they were hired to ".. ease community pressure." What was that pressure they were trying to ease? Could it have been that the college administration was being criticized nationally for denying students and faculty basic rights of free speech? #19 says it's O.K. for companies to hire consultants to meet their needs. However, when public institutions hire private consultants to spin public opinion, it is wrong!— July 24, 2010 5:36 p.m.
Southwestern College's Proper Snack Bar
Most disturbing is the spending of the public's money on a consultant to "..ease media and community pressure.." While it might be common practice to hire spin doctors in the private sector, it should be illegal to use PUBLIC tax dollars to persuade the PUBLIC!— July 23, 2010 9:48 a.m.
Southwestern College's Proper Snack Bar
Southwestern College's Communications Vice President had better communicate why the college is spending taxpayer dollars for all these consultants during these tough financial times. Isn't this what we pay administrors for? If he doesn't inform the public, then his exorbitant salary must also be brought into question.— July 22, 2010 7:05 p.m.
Chula Vista's former police head David Bejarano accused of check fraud by partner
Tijuanaguero, I think you're right about the appointed city attorney and that's why Chula Vistans voted to elect their city's attorney instead of having one appointed. Let's just hope our new attorney does what he was elected to do and represent the interests of the people.— July 6, 2010 6:50 p.m.
Chula Vista's former police head David Bejarano accused of check fraud by partner
This information raises many questions about these so-called non-profits and their lack of public oversight. Hopefully these issues become the subject of public debate and changes will be forthcoming. However, the city attorney owes the public an immediate answer to the question of what took so long to initiate an investigation!— July 2, 2010 12:21 p.m.
Enough to Smear Somebody
Great! A $100,000 savings for taxpayers and least a partial cleanup of Chula Vista's political swamp. Let's hope this moratorium becomes permanent.— June 26, 2010 5:33 p.m.
East Otay Mesa landfill goes to ballot
Thanks! I haven't voted yet, and this certainly helps me make up my mind. This information hasn't been out there until now.— June 3, 2010 7 p.m.
