Sweetwater Unified High School District Boardmember Seeks Removal of Superintendent Jesus Gandara
Let's just hope they don't offer him a big buyout at taxpayers' expense. He has already stolen enough from us, and there appears to be plenty of evidence to justify his outright dismissal, if not a criminal indictment.— June 18, 2011 3:17 p.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District Money Trail Gets Longer
Where is Sweetwater's school board president? As the leader of this mess, you would think Mr. McCann would be calling press conference after press conference to assure the public he's on top of all of this, and that appropriate action is forthcoming, heads will be rolling, etc.,etc. Maybe we'll be finding out that instead of being on top, he's actually immersed in this swamp.— June 8, 2011 9:22 a.m.
Sweetwater Education Foundation Pays for Volunteer Board Positions?
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters' website shows that Dan Hom gave generously to the campaigns of Cartmill, McCann, and Ricassa. How can we drain this swamp!— May 31, 2011 9:28 a.m.
Does Sweetwater’s Hiring of Greg Vega Constitute Conflict?
So now we learn that Alevy, hired by Garcia, is going to be "independently" audited by Vega, whose hiring was recommended by Garcia without mentioning to the school board the fact that Vega had previously been employed by the district when he and Vega TOGETHER represented the district in the 2003 Prop BB investigation. Mr. Garcia knows he shouldn't have advised hiring Mr. Vega because of the obvious conflict of interest. It doesn't take an $83000(!) a month lawyer to see that. It really doesn't take a lawyer at all, but simply an honest person. It also takes elected officials with motives beyond their personal gain, political or otherwise to do their the jobs as trustees of our schools. Mr.McCann is either asleep at the wheel or blinded by his political ambitions, and other than Ms Lopez, the rest of this board is along for the ride. It's time to stop this madness. It's our money and the education of our kids at stake. A truly independent, as in grand jury, investigation of this entire district is in order.— May 26, 2011 9:41 a.m.
Citizens Denied Attendance to Sweetwater Union High Meeting
Obviously the firing of Gandara is overdue, but isn't it time to oust some school board members as well? If their terms aren't coming up soon, then a recall should be considered. It looks like John McCann, who was recently elected to the school board after he was termed out of office from city council will be jumping this sinking ship to run again for city council or mayor of Chula Vista. Keeping your name in the public's eye by getting on this or that board while keeping your own eye on your next political move is what politicians do all the time. For McCann this will be a lose-lose decision. He will expose himself for really not caring about the Sweetwater mess ( by the way, an audit lists him as one of the lunch-on-the-taxpayers' bunch), and hopefully Chula Vistans wouldn't elect him based on all that has transpired on his watch as their trustee of the school district.— May 22, 2011 12:21 p.m.
Citizens Denied Attendance to Sweetwater Union High Meeting
According to Ms. Leopold, the district's fact spinner (director of communications), they've had capacity crowds for six months. Shouldn't they have already moved their meetings to a larger venue as VigilantinCV suggests? Why haven't they? From everything we've been reading, it seems obvious. The smaller venue is to discourage public participation at a time when district activities, more and more, appear to be criminally indictable. That's why so many people are showing up in protest. What the Sweetwater district has been doing with taxpayer money is nothing short of stealing. If the average citizen steals, they are prosecuted. Shouldn't that be the case here? There must be an auditorium or gymnasium available for these meetings, and one should never need a reservation to be seated at a public meeting.— May 20, 2011 4:29 p.m.
Cel phone towers in Sweetwater schools questioned
The fact that it is illegal to consider health or environment when regulating cell towers is absurd, and the idea that the towers should stay until they're proven unsafe sounds a lot like the line tobacco and asbestos companies fed the public for years. Bravo to the Los Angeles Unified School District! Unfortunately, our Sweetwater Union High School District chooses to put the health of students and employees at risk to make twelve bucks per student a year. But then again, since it goes into their unmonitored general fund, maybe it will be spent on golf or at Hooters instead.— May 18, 2011 12:40 p.m.

Kurt Donsbach Sentenced to a Year in Jail
Thanks SurfPuppy. I was referring to a teacher I read about who was dismissed for posting photos of himself on a Craigslist dating site. I thought the article said that even though his actions were legal and he was considered a competent teacher, his dismissal was upheld by the courts for immoral conduct. Anyway, it's too bad board members are exempt from what, as in this case, appears to be both immoral and illegal. What a double standard! By the way I meant to write "moral terpitude" not "interpitude". And Visduh, I think you're right on.— April 17, 2011 10:27 a.m.
