Sweetwater Union HS District Supe Ed Brand Addresses Problems with U-T Coverage
You wouldn't know Mr. Brand was hired as an interim superintendent by the way he's promoting his "Sweetwater University" idea. It makes you think his stay is far from temporary, at least in his wishful thinking. In another Reader article Mr. Brand says that Sweetwater is in his DNA, making his "cradle to the grave" idea sound more related to his job than education. How dare Mr. Brand charge the media with excessively requesting knowledge from the district. There is no such thing as excessive public knowledge except maybe to someone trying to hide something. The public relies on the media as it plays a crucial role in a democracy. Hopefully the press keeps pressing no matter how paranoid it makes district administrators.— November 3, 2011 2:05 p.m.
The Sweetwater School Board – forget teamwork
Posted by joepublic anniej: I think you might have misread the first sentence of my comment. "This school board, excluding Ms Lopez, has to go". I agree with you regarding Ms Lopez. Her presence on the board gives the public a fighting chance. If it wasn't for Ms Lopez, we wouldn't know that important information regarding Gandara's separation agreement might've been withheld from her (and therefore us). Maybe when it all comes out, we'll be able to save a lot of money (if it's not too late). We need Ms Lopez. It's the other four who will hopefully be shown the door. I do follow the actions of this school board and hope to attend some meetings.— October 21, 2011 9:50 a.m.
The Sweetwater School Board – forget teamwork
Right on anniej! This school board, excluding Ms Lopez has to go. It's too bad they're not up for reelection soon. They would learn as did the Southwestern school board, that the masses are not the asses as they like to think , but in fact we are very aware of their politically motivated misdeeds and would vote them out. We might have to wait, but their time will come. Meanwhile I hope all the community and employee activists keep the pressure up and that the press continues to keep us informed.— October 20, 2011 4:56 p.m.
Goodrich Bought Out After Chula Vista Redevelopment Agency Relocates Company
Good paying industrial unionized jobs with health benefits are what gave working class Chula Vistans and San Diegans in general the chance to own homes and with their expendable income buy products and services within their community. What the city is proposing on the bayfront will serve a few wealthy investors, developers, and hotel operators. BobHudson is correct about hotel workers' wages. Hotel service jobs won't provide working people with what is necessary to sustain a healthy, viable, and economically sound commmunity.— September 26, 2011 5:45 p.m.
Dumanis Responds to California's High Unemployment Rate
I thought political advertisements were supposed to include the candidate's approval. Or, if this was a journalist's piece, the opinions of the other candidates.— September 16, 2011 5:27 p.m.
South Bay Expressway to Be Leased by SANDAG
You're right twister. They think we're stupid. Chula Vista's mayor Cheryl Cox once told us that the toll road is the city's third best attraction! Now she wants to spend more of our tax dollars to buy it and then pay to use it! A related reader article spells out how we've already spent taxpayer money on this "third wonder". Enough is enough! http://sdreader_test.www.clients.ellingtoncms.com… .— August 3, 2011 9:17 a.m.
How Did We Get in This Mess at Southwestern College and Sweetwater Union?
I hope that if an investigation leads to charges and convictions, those who fleeced the public will be forced to repay. And you're right Fred Williams, I have also noticed how the UT has a problem with seemingly never citing the San Diego Reader as one of their sources of information.— July 21, 2011 10:25 a.m.
Sweetwater Union Interim Superintendent Ed Brand’s Past
What was the Sweetwater school board thinking? I'm surprised they didn't hire Raj Chopra to clean things up! What Sweetwater doesn't need is another self-serving bureaucrat known for doing favors for rich friends. In light of our economic crisis and its devastating effect on the school district's budget, shouldn't they be forced to conduct district business with the staff of administrators that they already have? Shouldn't there be a back-up plan to run the district in the absence of the Superintendent? Sometimes I wonder just how much students' education would suffer if we didnt have a full-time superintendent at all? As it stands we're presently paying for two, one not to work, and the other $20,000 a month to substitute.— July 10, 2011 11:17 a.m.
Superintendent Jesus Gandara “Separated” From Sweetwater Union High School District
I agree with SouthBayParent, the buyout is outrageous, and on top of it we'll be spending $17,000 a year on the retirement of someone who probably should be heading for prison. Visduh's right also. All of the bums must go! Perhaps the biggest bum/crook is Bonifacio Garcia , the school districts $83,000 a month lawyer. Check out this link and read how he has been ripping off taxpayers for years. http://www.bonifacio-garcia.itgo.com/— June 22, 2011 3:43 p.m.
Sweetwater Unified High School District Boardmember Seeks Removal of Superintendent Jesus Gandara
Certain members of the board are probably afraid that they might be implicated in the wrongdoings and would therefore rather just make the problem "go away". If Gandara sues, fine. The trial would reveal much more than the public already knows and that's good.— June 19, 2011 11:30 a.m.
