A Shocking View into Former Sweetwater Superintendent Jesus Gandara's Past
redevilaboveground: Thanks for the correction regarding McCann being president last year and not now. You're also right about his pathetical and seemingly pathological need to appear heroic.— February 7, 2012 3:08 p.m.
A Shocking View into Former Sweetwater Superintendent Jesus Gandara's Past
Another newspaper recently ran a story headlined "Is Sweetwater recall driven by teacher's union?" In the article Board president John McCann says, "Serving recall papers and having votes of no confidence are typical strategies that labor unions use to attack non-labor canditates." First of all, we should be grateful for anyone and everyone, individual or group, that gets behind the recall of these crooked politicians, and sorry Mr. McCann, but the the age old cry of "blame the unions" simply will not work this time around. As this article points out, the problem and cause for recall go far and deep. Your attack on labor unions is a poor attempt to divert the public's eye from the real issues. Shame on you. They say that those who don't remember history are condemned to repeat it. Thank you San Diego Reader for this important historical link.— February 7, 2012 9:42 a.m.
Gaylord Entertainment to Return to Chula Vista?
laplayaheritage: Republican mayoral candidates repeating a lie is one thing, but the press (Union Tribune) chiming in is a great disservice to the people who are deciding on which way to vote. Here's how the Union Tribune's Editorial May 11, 2008, slanted the issue. UNION-TRIBUNE EDITORIAL Yes on G in Chula Vista Written by San Diego U-T Editorial Board 12:04 a.m., May 8, 2010 Chula Vista is where the ghost of the billion-dollar Gaylord hotel and convention center still looms large, a testament to what might have been save for the intransigence of organized labor demanding a PLA, environmental groups wanting $21 million in greenmail, a business community that sat on its hands, and infrastructure costs that ultimately proved fatal.— February 3, 2012 8:37 a.m.
Money for Sweetwater Union HS District Board Members Under Microscope
So now we learn that the school board was actually given two legal opinions regarding how to remove Dr. Gandara. We have to assume that the decision to buy him out which cost us about $500,000 plus lifetime retirement benefits (longer if he declared a beneficiary) was based on at least one of those opinions. Was that their only choice? Could that second opinion have concluded that Dr. Gandara be fired for cause, thus avoiding a costly buyout? We can't know unless the board releases or gives the public at least the gist of that second opinion. Until then, we'll have to assume that once again we’ve been duped and ripped off.— February 1, 2012 11:39 a.m.
Did Election Tampering Help Create Sweetwater Union High School Board?
SurfPuppy: I agree, but I'd take it a step further and televise the meetings on the public channel, and like you, I would have no problem speaking my mind publicly. However, in this case only certain individuals were being filmed by a single board member, and it appeared that McCann was only taping those who were criticizing the board. While it's probably legal, it might feel a bit intimidating to someone not as bold as you or me, and especially to someone who might be addressing the board for the first time. Don't forget, this is a district where retaliation has been a standard operational procedure for some time.— February 1, 2012 9:18 a.m.
Did Election Tampering Help Create Sweetwater Union High School Board?
anniej: About McCann trying to intimidate speakers by filming them selectively with his cell phone.... Do you happen to know if what he was doing is legal? It certainly goes against the board's policy of encouraging public input.— January 31, 2012 10:30 p.m.
Did Election Tampering Help Create Sweetwater Union High School Board?
So this is why McCann kept the Vega report from the public for so long. What's disgusting is how at the last minute, when public pressure had built to explosive dimensions, he pretended to want it released. Shouldn't we expect a more in depth investigation into what the report calls "possible California election law violations"? I don't think McCann and Cartmill are out of the woods just yet. As far as Alevy goes, he'd better realize that just because they paid him to do his job doesn't mean it's legal.— January 31, 2012 1:46 p.m.
Calexico Unified School District's Similarities with Sweetwater
dgarcia: Your rant is a pretty poor attempt at damage control, and it doesn't work on a public used to being lied to by PR guys like you. Concerning your problem with not knowing the reporters' sources, many sources wish to remain anonymous, and the press has the right to protect them. Live with it.— January 20, 2012 4:02 p.m.
Southwestern College Foundation Under Investigation
Does anyone know if the Vega report will be on the January 30th agenda? You're absolutely right blondes, we who paid for that report should pack the meeting and demand delivery of what we've paid for.— January 19, 2012 4:51 p.m.
Calexico Unified School District's Similarities with Sweetwater
First of all, unions exist to better the lives of workers. That includes having an interest in their pocket books, health care, and working conditions. Keep in mind that the working conditions of teachers are also the learning conditions of their students. To say that interest in one's welfare necessarily negates interest in one's profession simply doesn't make sense. This article is about taxpayers' money lining the pockets of this law firm instead of being spent in the classroom where you will find teachers working very hard to educate our kids with shrinking support. I tried to get this link (below) to work earlier. If it doesn't work this time, search it and read what the real issue is here. http://www.bonaficio-garcia.itgo.com..>— January 18, 2012 4:21 p.m.
