Sweetwater Authority Votes to Fluoridate South Bay Water
Dental care, as we all know, is quite expensive, and therefore families struggling to survive, hispanic or not, more than likely will put off routine dental visits for their kids. Maybe before we dump potentially dangerous chemicals into our water, we should first consider free or inexpensive government subsidized dental care and educational programs aimed at promoting healthy eating and good dental hygiene.— September 19, 2012 7:42 p.m.
10News and Sweetwater's John McCann, True Patriots?
I just found this. I guess they at least have a good policy reagarding name-calling. They should follow it. (Taken from SD Rostra's website): Commenters of all political persuasions are invited to comment and debate on the blog. The general rules are that commenters should be respectful, deal in issues instead of personalities, and stick to the topic. Foul language and NAME-CALLING will not be tolerated. ( my emphasis )— September 14, 2012 9:25 p.m.
10News and Sweetwater's John McCann, True Patriots?
I thought Joe Little's report on the September 10 SUHSD special board meeting was one of the worst pieces of journalism I had ever witnessed, but then I read Steve Gramm's report published today in SD Rostra. Mr. Gramm, like Mr. Little, ignores the due diligence expected of serious journalists, but then takes an unprofessional leap further. Forget about fact checking, he launches right into name calling. SD Rostra should reconsider their standards and policies if they ever expect to have any journalistic integrity.— September 14, 2012 7:45 p.m.
10News and Sweetwater's John McCann, True Patriots?
McCann's attempt to divert public attention has failed. Thankfully we have at least one true journalist covering the stories in the south bay. Joe Little's report was pathetic. A little off topic, but interesting to note is the fact that we've been without the services of a superintendent for some time now, and the district is still operating the same as it was when Dr. Brand was *working.* Has anyone who does the day-to-day work with students or provides related services, really missed him or felt less able to perform their jobs in his absence? I doubt it. Let's put that $20,000 a month to better use. Let's spend it instead, on those who actually provide services to the students, or on supplies to help them.— September 14, 2012 8:44 a.m.
Sweetwater Schools Board Aborts Meeting Agenda, Not Brand
greatness83: When the workforce "must" be reduced, whether it is due to budget mis-management, upside down priorities, or a legitimate lack of funding, the law states (and rightly so) that it must be done fairly, not capriciously or arbitrarily. While some administrators might like to cleanse the ranks of employees who are not in line with them politically, the California Education Code prevents that from happening. You're right, greatnes83, you can think and write whatever you want, wherever you want, freely, and without intimidation or fear of retaliation. That's what democracy is all about, and that's what seniority protection for employees in times of layoffs is all about.— September 12, 2012 6:47 p.m.
Sweetwater Schools Board Aborts Meeting Agenda, Not Brand
The public has a right to know the status of its interim-superintendent/consultant Dr. Brand. Right now it's as though he's simply gone missing. When taxpayers are dishing out $20,000 a month for consultant's work, they most certainly have a right to know why their consultant doesn't show up for work. It's the school board's duty and obligation to explain why Dr. Brand's seat was empty.— September 11, 2012 9:05 p.m.
Sweetwater Schools Board Aborts Meeting Agenda, Not Brand
Brand is refusing to go to work, which is essentially being on strike. At the press conference held regarding the toxic dirt pile, he walked off the job before he could be asked questions from the press. Is he still being paid the $20,000 a month he contracted for? If he is, the obvious question is why.— September 11, 2012 10:50 a.m.
Sweetwater Interim Superintendent Ed Brand to Get Contract?
I watched Brand's "explanation" videos linked to this article. They are little more than hire me campaign pieces. The only thing missing is "I am Ed Brand, and I approve of this message". What a farce!— September 3, 2012 3:36 p.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District bought iPads for all their seventh graders
Our democratic society is based on the principles of individual freedom, equality and due process. Workers, in this case teachers, should not be expected to leave these rights at the workplace door. Unions exist to see that employees are not treated arbitrarily or capriciously. I agree with anniej, imagine where employees would be in this district without union protection.— August 25, 2012 10:59 a.m.
Sweetwater Schools Chief Walks Away Before Q&A on Dirt
So, Brand abruptly leaves the press conference without as much as a so long, sorry, but something more important's come up...? This man is paid $20,000 a month to answer questions when consulted. Would any other employee be given a pass for this behavior?— August 19, 2012 8:35 p.m.
