After car crash, Sweetwater trustee McCann out of ICU
I agree, oskidoll. I guess the public has been disrespected for so long by this school board that when they are treated the way they're supposed to be, they feel they must be thankful. Among other reasons, Mr. Cartmill should've resigned for bringing in the Gandara from Texas.— August 4, 2013 5:34 p.m.
After car crash, Sweetwater trustee McCann out of ICU
I wish both Mr. McCann and the other victim of this accident a speedy recovery, and am thankful that the injuries weren't worse. I agree with cvres and shirleyberan about it being strange that the other victim has not been identified nor publicly acknowledged by superintendent Brand as was Mr. McCann, especially since the other injured person is a Sweetwater employee.— July 30, 2013 7:59 p.m.
Week in review: Sweetwater Union High School District
As the *Reader* has reported, representatives from local assemblymembers' offices have been attending Sweetwater school board meetings and taking notes. Hopefully this recent clear violation of the public's legal right to obtain information will prompt them to act. I understand that the courts are the venue for filing PRA complaints, however political pressure from elected officials couldn't hurt and might actually be more expedient. By issuing a statement condemning illegal actions such as denying the public's right to know, they would at least be telling us they're on our side. I would also like to see the local mayors, city council members, as well as county officials follow the assembly members' lead and step up to the plate for the communities they represent. Maybe it's time we direct some energy towards contacting them.— June 30, 2013 9:39 a.m.
Sweetwater runs afoul of state Public Records Act
What we need is some teeth in the Public Records Act, or else the gorillas will continue to bully the public.— June 25, 2013 10:38 a.m.
California Public Record Act decimated by recent vote
This is really bad news. Long before the District Attorney's office confiscated their phones and computers, the *Reader* was printing communications between these alleged crooks. If the governor doesn't veto this, the public's right to know will become a public agency's *decision* to share. anniej: Surely you jest.— June 18, 2013 11:07 a.m.
Sweetwater board candidate has his sign damaged
anniej: Thank you for the information, and I'm sure glad the *Reader* took the personal attack down. Totally inappropriate.— June 11, 2013 8:25 a.m.
Sweetwater board candidate has his sign damaged
Does anyone have more information regarding the failed attempt to start a bank by Mr. Hassey and superintendent Brand?— June 10, 2013 11:19 p.m.
Sweetwater scandal: Ed Brand’s claims contradicted
Isn't lying to a Grand Jury a serious offense? So, what do you think will happen now that obviously someone has?— June 3, 2013 7:55 a.m.
Grand Jury investigation transcripts for South Bay school districts released
Those who advocate using the "business model" for running our schools should take note: "And so it is a practice of all businesses, .....um, especially representing school districts to entertain....where different companies will have a hospitality suite. People come in, food, drink, whatever....." -Bonifacio Garcia- And speaking of the "dance", private companies might be used to this, and certainly know all the steps, but public officials must not be allowed to join in. Did I read that one ex-board member just said "no"? I believe it was Jaime Mercado?— May 30, 2013 9:08 a.m.
Safety of Sweetwater school district’s buses below par
In another article, the Reader exposed Brand's credit card expenditures. It showed that many of our tax dollars were spent maintaining his vehicle. Now we learn that our "precious cargo's" (well put Mr. Gilly) safety has been compromised. Does this man have no shame?— May 28, 2013 6 p.m.
