Chula Vista school admin moves forward with Common Core Standards
Chula Vista Elementary District superintendent's cabinet members getting bonuses based on test scores is quite disturbing. I guess it's what they call the "business model" for education. Students are the workers, and the test scores the product. This might work for an automobile company's board of directors, but this is the education of children we're talking about. It's no wonder that the district has resorted to intimidating the public and the news media. Until now, this was one of their best kept secrets. By the way, what is Mr. Millican's official title?— November 20, 2013 6:36 p.m.
South Bay schools defendants get day in court
Chopra's gone, more than likely for good, but does anyone else feel a little uneasy knowing San Ysidro trustee, Yolanda Hernandez, who now admits committing the crime of perjury, might be allowed to remain in a position of power? Who is looking out for the the public's interest here?— October 31, 2013 9:18 a.m.
Cops kick out public from Sweetwater board meeting
A mob? From these photos, all you see are a group of adults with children who you'd assume are Sweetwater employees with their families protesting unfair bargaining practices on the part of their employer. Armed police officers? Really over the top, but I guess that's common in this district. More taxpayer money wasted. Will it ever end? By the way, isn't denial of public comment illegal under the Brown Act?— October 22, 2013 4:07 p.m.
Donna Frye asks Sweetwater school board to make information available to the public
[Shinoff responded, “It is my understanding from the District that the request was not denied.”] The district's lawyer gives a clever response. While not denying Ms Adato's request, the district certainly ignored Ms Frye's advice.— October 19, 2013 5:19 p.m.
Teachers for Sweetwater district face insurance cost hike
bvagency: You're absolutely right, the blame game plays right into the district's hands. Teachers and all district employees will have to stay united and work in solidarity with the community if we are to move forward and affect change.— October 17, 2013 8:47 p.m.
Teachers for Sweetwater district face insurance cost hike
Didn't Brand walk off the job during his last contract negotiations and not return until he got the contract he wanted? Of course he'd be the first to chastise the teachers if they followed his example.— October 17, 2013 11:56 a.m.
Sweetwater school district's real estate deals gain momentum
I drove by that lot on Third Avenue the other day and found the traffic to be extremely congested due to the street narrowing the city had recently done. To consider building condos there seems crazy. Take a drive by there someday around 4 o'clock, and then imagine if you can, cars trying to enter and/or leave the proposed condo/apartment development.— October 14, 2013 10:28 a.m.
South Bay judge upholds majority of indictments in pay-to-play
........the jury will understand "that my client was doing what every other elected officials does." Maybe so, but hopefully that same jury won't let his client and the others get away with it.— October 11, 2013 8:15 a.m.
Unreasonable search of Olympian High School students?
To quote Mr. Wahib: "....In the investigation involving your daughter, it was determined that your daughter was not involved and that there were students who were misidentified. The search of her belongings was conducted in the presence of a female teacher as well as me and the campus assistant..." Question for Mr. Wahib : What was your reasonable cause to search these students' belongings? To cut to the search as quickly as you did, certainly does NOT appear to be within the spirit of the law. erupting: According to the article (second page) the ACLU has been contacted by one of the students' father.— October 5, 2013 5:47 p.m.
Chula Vista from boom to bust to boom
Woodchuck: It looks like we're in a vicious cycle.— October 2, 2013 7:45 a.m.
