KPBS and U-T plug Jacobs airport-moving scheme
Funny thing - a claim that SD would outgrow Lindbergh Field in 20 years was made at least 20 years ago.— December 8, 2015 3:17 p.m.
Mission Valley development machine cranks up
I think newborns qualify as residents once they join the world. They're certainly counted in the census.— October 14, 2015 1:32 p.m.
NFL team could play in L.A. in 2016
This strategy isn't limited to the NFL either - true for many if not most publicly-funded projects. Do you know how much we are still paying on bond service for Qualcomm, Petco & the first Convention Center expansion? All out of our General Fund, too, if I recall correctly. Why should be add more costs for a replacement stadium we're still paying off on especially when we have such huge deficits in basic City infrastructure and facilities such as Balboa Park?— May 29, 2015 5:30 p.m.
Goldsmith loses to Briggs
My comment does not in any way criticize or imply criticism of Cory Briggs for bringing the lawsuit. You chose to read sarcasm into my sincere thanks to Cory for forcing the issue and prevailing.— January 28, 2015 1:41 p.m.
Gulp! Rancho Santa Fe is how thirsty?
Don - I know there are some golf courses which buy recycled water from the North City Water Reclamation Plant but I believe they are a small number relative to the total golf courses in San Diego, city or county. The difficulty is the cost of separate pipes to convey the recycled water to the buyer. There are two maps of the distribution of recycled water piping here: http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recycled/availabili… Golf courses etc are shown in bright green. The non-potable recycled water is also used for some industrial purposes where available. There's additional information at the main page: http://www.sandiego.gov/water/recycled/— December 2, 2014 4:54 p.m.
Seals and people to be together at last?
The BEACH was never gifted to the public. The public has owned the beach all along as public tideland. It was the seawall at Casa Cove/LJ Children's Pool that was a gift from Ellen Browning Scripps.— October 17, 2014 9:12 a.m.
R.I.P. Andrew Kay
My introduction to computers was on a Kaypro in the very early 80s - no graphical interface (took almost another decade). Thanks to a friend, David Goldberg, I was able to use the various programs: PerfectWriter, PerfectFiler, etc. I still have the step by step notes David gave me over the phone to create record files and then print out selected reports from PerfectFiler. Transition to a PC (still before Mosaic & Netscape) was made a lot easier because of that experience (even though it was still a blank screen with flashing cursor awaiting a command). So many of the keyboard commands I learned with the KayPro version of Wordperfect were and remain identical across many PC-based programs today. Oh, and it was "portable" (but weighed a LOT so I had a difficult time lugging it around on the few occasions I had the need to).— September 5, 2014 2:57 p.m.
What the emails tell us
For those who haven't been paying attention, NO jobs will be lost and the Barrio Logan Community Plan that these companies are trying to kill has no authority on the water-side of Harbor Drive. In fact, the shipyard union workers who initially supported the referendums because they believed the lies & posters emphasizing the lies, changed their position to opposing the two referendums once they actually read the plan. The Community Plan will not change any existing business that *are* within the boundaries addressed in the Plan. What the Community Plan does do is limit expansion of businesses on the land side of Harbor Dr., in a fraction of the area governed by the Plan, without public hearings & a Conditional Use Permit. The intent is to protect residents & homeowners within Barrio Logan - again, in a fraction of the area within the Plan boundaries - from expansion of or establishment of new manufacturing businesses that further contribute to the existing health impacts on those who live nearby.— April 4, 2014 8:40 a.m.
Impeachment bragging may bite Goldsmith
I think the plaintiffs are going to have their own problems based on their own comments quoted in more than one place. Here's a quote posted by La Playa Heritage in comments on a CityBeat article last August and taken from statements made by Gloria Allred. Similar statements were posted in an earlier CityBeat editorial which called on Filner to resign. The following quote is an analysis by the San Diegans for Mayor Bob Filner Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/SanDiegansForMayorBobFil… "Lets take a look at the statements Allred made, since we know the media will not. 1.. After agreeing to help Ragazzino, Filner asked to speak to Tyler alone. AFTER agreeing to help, not before, not during, no quid pro quo but "after saying he would help." 2. She said Filner told Tyler that if they weren't in his office, he would like to kiss her. IF they weren't in his office. Making it clear he wasn't using his office. 3.Tyler told him to stop and said she had to leave, Allred said. As Tyler left the office, the mayor told her, "I'm going to call you." DID the mayor ever call ?? 4. Ragazzino teared up as she described her experience with Filner and Tyler. She said she owes everything to Tyler for getting her help. NO, it appears you owe some of your thanks to the mayor, who helped you without any trade of favors at all. Once again the mayor flirts, ask a woman out, is rebuffed and he does no follow up on it. Once rebuffed it seems "no" works quite well with the mayor."— March 28, 2014 9:41 a.m.
San Diego water: You will pay
Anyone who would like to maintain an attractive, green and floral yard while using far less water should take a trip to the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College. There are low-water tolerant grasses as well as numerous flowering plants and bushes.— March 27, 2014 7:11 p.m.
