Movie Poster Rejects You've Never Seen: Jaws, Batman, Supergirl, more
Wow, nice sleuthing - thanks! That one was also apparently known as Heavy Metal Summer - doesn't look like much of this concept art ever went to waste!— July 13, 2017 7:11 p.m.
I'm in a rush. It's Ocean Beach. The grunion are running.
I spent the Autumn of 1979 in an apartment on Abbott Street in OB, which I rented with just enough money in my pocket for the first month's rent and one meal - thank goodness for the grunion run a couple of days after I arrived, I lived off eating those things out of my freezer for weeks! Since my only income was donating blood plasma a couple of times a week, grunion cooking options were limited to free seasoning and flavor packets snagged at fast food places, especially ketchup and margarine. The "recipe" was just throw the whole fish in a pan with a selection of whatever free "seasoning" condiments was handy, and fry until crispy. The whole fish is edible, even the head - after frying, it's basic consistency is like a fat French fry. The taste wasn't anything to rave about, but some of those meals are quite fondly recalled. When you're as hungry as I was, grunion seem like a gourmet meal! I might never have survived were it not for those humble little fish.— July 5, 2017 11:16 a.m.
Veronica May's sweetest 30 seconds
Outtakes: USELESS TRIVIA FACT? “The fact that I suck at trivia.” GREATEST CONCERT? “Steph Johnson’s 2016 album release. Her songs are as powerful as her voice, and she has mad guitar skills.” ANY OTHER CURRENT OR FORMER LOCALS TO RECOMMEND WITH GREAT VOICES? “Tori Roze, for the intensity and unbridled passion. Yes, I said that. And Barbara Nesbitt, for the amazing tone quality and heartbreaking melody lines.” WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THE YOUNGER YOU? “Please don’t do that to your hair.” FAVORITE MOVIE BASED ON A BOOK? “Titanic. That was a book, right?” BEST AND WORST BAND NAMES? “Best, Panic at the Disco and Lady Dottie & the Diamonds. Worst would be Gwar or Roast Beef Curtains.”— May 31, 2017 1:05 p.m.

City workers' sa-weet O.B. Pier gig
Another eye-opening and hitherto unreported "citizen journalist" submission, this time exposing abuse of/by Park & Rec services on the pier - I hope "Anonymous" follows up on this with future reports and updates on the situation in OB. Excellent work!— December 9, 2016 7:25 p.m.

Be Here Now — is it really that bad?
Spot-on writeup on this epically spotty LP - Robert Duffy's reviews are always a good read, I only wish they'd appear more often than two or three times annually!— October 29, 2016 5:43 p.m.
