neighborhoods/imperial-beach -- Imperial Beach
At the end of Coronado Ave on the south west corner of Seacoast stands a three story blue trimmed white condo/apartment with a new tenant that seemingly has a beef with the existence of my feathered friends that live here at the beach. Recently there has been a new bird sound filling the sea air,. It's not any more of a real bird then Big Bird from Sesame Street, but nearly as annoying as he. Among the multiple statues of fake hawks and owls that now don the decor of this building. is a sound speaker screeching out recorded hawk cries in close intervals and frequency. I presume it's to detour the pigeons, seagulls and/or crows from doing bird things in or around their area. Problem is that it's not just the birds that are being effected. Tell me new neighbor, if you feel so strongly about keeping birds away from your home, don't you think moving across the street from an estuary might have been a bad idea?— April 22, 2013 5:53 p.m.

neighborhoods/north-park -- North Park
Shop Locally!!!! Many of the privately owned stores that once lined University Ave and El Cajon Blvd are just empty store fronts coated in graffiti, boarded windows and vandalism. We've lost the cozy charm of our neighborhoods to Walmart and internet shopping.— April 20, 2013 3:18 a.m.
Cat Killer on the Loose
wouldn't they already be considered a serial killer, just because it's not a human life doesn't take away from the repetition on the killings, it's just that they are too coward still to take a human life. hopefully they remain coward, but it much easier to live with oneself if you weren't mutilating and torturing an animal that is surely going to be missed by someone. someone who will be tormented by the idea of who their cat was dismembered brutally by some freak sort of person.— November 2, 2009 3:56 p.m.
Wiry Creatures
maybe we should think about curbing the population of criminals and stupid people and limit the reproduction to those producing them to maybe one a piece and leave the less bothersome and non-threatening coyote be.— November 1, 2009 3:01 p.m.
Cat Killer on the Loose
i probably shouldn't give this any more attention that it already has because it is sometimes within our sick nature as humans to fertilize to the extreme a seed that is planted and new little seedlings start to pop up. Unfortunately we have taught ourselves to be worse than animals, killing and mamming the lives and bodies of innocent creatures. i too have seen the severed top portion of a cat's body at bird park on upas and 28th st. i had assumed it was because of a coyote (not that i hold any contempt for the coyote if it had been him. they have to eat too), but i often wondered why, if it was a coyote there was any part of the body left at all. coyotes eat everything, bones, fur, guts and just leave some traces of their meal behind, not a full portion. i have a hard time understanding why a person or people would do this and why. i can only hope that they receive the same twisted fate at the end of their miserable lives by the hands of another. i fear all the time for the lives of my cats that i allow outside. i sit by the window at night listening the nights when i can't find them to bring them in. i don't believe that there is any jail time involved for a person who kills an animal, but i know there would be for me if i ever found someone doing anything cruel to my animals or the animals of someone else. i just wish they would stop doing it if for nothing else other than the animals owners left behind wondering why someone would have done it.— November 1, 2009 10:56 a.m.
