I live with dinosaurs
Clarke Dailey is NOT a director of anything and talking out his ass. I met with my long-time acquaintance Keith Roynon and Jeannie Nutter on May 11, 2015 and in our closed meeting, Mr. Roynon's statements were completely consistent with your reporter's. Facts: the value of the collection has never been assessed; neither the sources or provenance of the international acquisitions which generally pre-date restrictions enacted in recent years have ever been scrutinized, $10 million is the number Mr. Roynon proposes as ideal, Mr,.Roynon is in discussion with the Chicago Museum, and so on. Dailey is an uninformed and uncredentialed hack seeking to ride the coattails of this passionate geologist, who has dedicated years to enriching children's knowledge of our world. Antiques Roadshow Needs to Appraise the Appraisers
Regarding "That rug you found", thank you to Mr. Dimock for taking the time to write this expose. I attended the recent show and both myself and my companion came away from it saying the same thing, "What a complete waste of time and energy." Dimocks account of his experience accurately depicted our interactions with several appraisers. The fact that we had different items is inconsequential because the appraisers were, in every instance, dismissive, condescending, disinterested and demonstrated a total lack of expertise. But the moment of truth, the moment when it became crystal clear that if only I would have stayed home, I could be doing something productive like laundry or taxes, that moment came when you got to the actual dollar value that this esteemed know-nothing proclaimed -- suffice to say they pontificate that your crap is way crappier than you could have imagined. Pshaw! I can still enjoy the weekly shows but there must be a better way to solicit the snippits of staged spontaneity than to compromise and misinform thousands of hopeful people....Ava Bianca— January 30, 2011 2:17 a.m.
One Thousand Ways to Die
John--Whatever you do, just say no to the morphine. When the doctor offers morphine, just think of it like he's Jim Jones and DON'T DRINK THE KOOL-AID!!Hang in there buddy.— December 3, 2010 9:11 a.m.
Potiker Family Senior Residence vs. the Lighthouse on 14th and Market
You can sue them in Small Claims Court because tenants have a right to 'quiet contentment' by law. Furthermore, include the landlord in the claim as a defendent for refusing to take action to protect your right of quiet contentment. I recommend writing an amicable letter to the offending facility asking them to resolve the violation and a separate one asking the landlord to resolve it. you'll need written documentation in Court that you have attempted resolution (send everything Certfied with Return Receipt) thru normal channels. Be sure to state the violation but you don't mention that you intend to sue. Sue for the maximum amount Small Claims Court allows. Only the people with the guts to sign the letters will share when damages are awarded so people will have to step up. Oh, and please don't forget to send me a reward for this valuable legal advice. Good Luck. Ava— July 22, 2010 2:15 p.m.
Richard Eckfield's crusade to get a train stop built at Del Mar Racetrack,
The Del Mar Fairgrounds is far and away the most grand venue in all of Southern California for such a broad range of attractions, I can't think of anyplace that hosts as many events. The diversity of attractions makes this a venue that benefits every person in the community. Not only is it grand, not only is it diverse, patronized by hundreds of thousands of people every year, it's the oldest grand venue of our coastal paradise AND of historical (and sentimental) significance. That the Del Mar Fairgrounds (or whatever you're calling it this week)should and must be made a major hub of mass transit is obvious--a no-brainer--there is no rational argument to the contrary. Get started on making a transit hub there, a crossroads of bus and train service from every outlying area in Southern Cal. Duh! I'm so exasperated, words fail. Wait, I forgot (as did the author)to note the cost of parking a car there is between $8.00 and $20.00, a sad fact that has kept many people away. How many families may find that if even they can manage admission to the event, the cost of parking is the deal breaker. (Thank you SDReader)— September 26, 2009 8:04 a.m.
