Casa Mira View — city of villages or mecca for crime?
With California in a drought, it seems that new water meters would be put on hold. I recognize that high density dwellings are more water efficient, but seriously? It is time we put the brakes on development and recognized that the infrastructure is already taxed beyond its limits. Anyone who has driven on the freeway after 3 pm knows this. Anyone who has children in county schools knows this. I don't care who the developers help elect, it is time to face facts and find other ways to generate income that does not include adding tens of thousands to the population.— July 29, 2015 3:14 p.m.
Christopher Selena accused of murder in Escondido townhouse
Where are the drug charges and fraud for using public assistance money to buy methamphetamine? Why is this even possible? This woman has three small children in the house, admitted to using probably the most dangerous of drugs, and she walks? Give me a ****ing break! Where is CPS? This story should be not about a murder, but how the government contributes to drug use, murder and child endangerment by allowing a system where public assistance moneys can easily be used to buy dangerous drugs.— December 12, 2012 1:37 p.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District bought iPads for all their seventh graders
Certainly the time has come to move to modern technology for teaching. However, choosing the most expensive device of many is questionable. There are many cheaper alternative choices, Android pads, Kindles and other reader devices that could have been used that don't have the many problems and expense of the Apple devices. If you compare the cost of text books to purchasing an electronic reader that can have all textbooks, library books, class schedules and other materials in a digital format, it is reasonable. On another level, doing homework, grading and other interactive features are great, but the infrastructure is not yet in place to support such a program. Certainly by the time teachers are up to speed, there will be devices that are cheaper, and will not allow improper use by students.— August 22, 2012 1:03 p.m.
Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control
You guys totally missed one of the great dives in north county: The Kraken in Cardiff. Best if you are on a bike cuz the parking is limited, Sundays have cool sit-in bands. Suitable for folks over 40, the Kraken is the place if you are old school biker or would like to be...— August 3, 2012 2:02 p.m.
Cities Across The County To Consider Enacting Medical Marijuana Ordinances
Anyone who has any experience with marijuana knows that it is relatively benign. Compared to alcohol, tobacco, and many prescriptions drugs, it has many benefits and few negative side effects. I often wonder who profits by this plant being illegal. Certainly the drug cartels do, but who else?— July 25, 2012 2:33 p.m.
The Hideout Steakhouse and Saloon
The Hideout Saloon is a must for any biker or biker fan. On any Sunday you can find 50 to 100 Harleys, customs, sport bikes, adventure bikes and even the occasional car club stopping in. Live music usually starting at 1 on Saturdays and Sundays, a great beer selection, grilled hamburgers, and the famous Hideout Hunnies! Don't miss this one.— July 8, 2010 7:34 p.m.
