Why Did 91X Fire Mookie?
I am also perplexed why Mookie was abruptly fired as he was one of the nicer DJ's that answered his phone and was pleasant to the listeners. I emailed Program Director Capone and reamed him good. I think Capone is just a coporate tool trying to survive in that dog-eat-dog world of BCA and protect his Albany friend, Christy Taylor. Capone told me that my "rant" over Mookie was "hilarious" and if I knew the "real reason Mookie was let go," I would not have "wasted my time.." defending Mookie. I know that this reasoning could be just a way for Capone to genuflect away from what really happened there. I also know that a lot of these men with a "face for radio" develop a male entitlement mentality in regard to all the women that are suddenly available to them as they go around town acting like big shots. I do not know if this is what befell Mookie, although certain other previous 91X DJ's surely suffered from this spurious self-aggrandizement. I am sure that many locals will welcome Robin Roth's return to the San Diego airwaves with open arms-as she is a doll. However, these glad tidings of Robin Roth's reemergence have a bit of a sad tinge as they come about on the departure of the well-liked Mookie.

Redesign of Thee Bungalow Near Complete, Bo-Beau to Debut
I have to warn the curious foodies out there-this restaurant looks to be wonderful but it will cost you! I have it on good authority that the food and drink will be pricey. But the outdoor pizza oven looks really cool and Frenchie. I bet the nearby residents will be driven to distraction by that divine wood-pizza baking smell, once the pizza gets to baking. Good luck resisting that!

I Finally Got Skip Frye to Make Me a Surfboard
The thing about going to Tourmaline Surf Park, is if you are a half-way decent chick, it is not a good place to hang out. Tourmaline attracts a lot of OLD. HORNY SURFERS! I am NOT talking about Skip Frye-he is a gentleman and husband of Donna Frye. But guys with a paunch from too many brewskis and no hair thinking they are all that because they got a surfboard with them. NOT! It's really pathetic to see these grizzled old goats making eyes with cute bikini girls. For someone female who just wants to lay out or maybe splash in the water, take yourself further down the road to the vast expanses of Mission Beach. The parking may be more problematic, but you will have an easier time of reading that book or not getting ogled by grandpas!

Pastor Craig Gross and XXX Star Ron Jeremy Argue Porn
Pastor Miles McPherson told the Rock Church this past Sunday that the Rock sanctuary attendance for the Porn Debate was 3,000 strong! He said about 1,000 of those there were not Church members but from the community at large. It is unheard of to get that many non-worshipers together in a Church setting-except for maybe a large funeral event. Never underestimate the appeal of porn in a Church setting! Pastor Miles was very proud that escort workers, porn actors, managers of strip clubs and strippers, gay bookstore owners and others attended the debate. These are exactly the people the Rock Church seeks to do outreach to. God loves every body! That is exactly what my sign said that I held at the Westboro Baptist Church protest at Comic Con. God loves every body! Someday Ron Jeremy will be saved-Pastor Miles & Pastor Craig Gross are hard at work praying for him-no doubt! What a final porn flick that would be-Ron Jeremy's Last Feature Film-where the Great Porn King gives up the nasty and finds God in the process! Hallelujah!

Pastor Craig Gross and XXX Star Ron Jeremy Argue Porn
Thank you, 3bproducer for that tidbit of info. In fact, one of the questions Ron Jeremy answered last night was: "how did you get into porn?" His answer- he had bit parts and small roles but was having trouble breaking into Hollywood. Ron Jeremy also was a stand-up comic and attested to the fact that it was his despairing over the lack of upward career movement that propelled him into porn. He said that in the 1970's, he posed for Playgirl magazine to get some publicity and instead got his first porn movie invitation instead.

The Rock Church clogs up Loma Portal
I am sorry to see that Dorian Hargrove-an otherwise esteemed and respected Reader contributor- has seen fit to jump on the Rock Church bashing wagon. Yes-it is crowded down that way on Sunday and there is lots of traffic. But The Rock Church strives mightily to mitigate a lot of what all the complainers love to kvetch about. Signs are all over stating where to park and the Church pays for and solicits volunteers to help control the traffic. How about all the business that is brought to Liberty Station by the church-goers both before and after services? I don't see any of those businesses crying when they go count their money earned from all those pesky Rock attendees? Where are these very same high-strung neighbors when High Tech High and High Tech Middle School clog Liberty Station TWICE A DAY/ 5 DAYS PER WEEK? Nowhere to be found-because High Tech High is prestigious and all the rich friends the complaining neighbors like to impress are so taken with High Tech! Yes-it is all relative down there at Liberty Station, and I would hope that Dorian Hargrove-if he is indeed TRULY-open-minded, and not trying to push some sort of Hillcrest agenda, will venture forth into The Rock Church-to see what a wonderful place it is. Maybe learn about all the great works this Church does. And also how they don't "hate" any one group and even "love" their churlish "neighbors!" That would make a much better story than the one he presently has featured in stringers, sorry to say.

Application Denied
This is a shame. I knew Frank Gormlie and his lovely ex-wife Barb when they lived in OB on Del Monte Street-I seem to recall-a few years ago. He is now a Facebook friend and fellow activist. It's not enough that Gormlie totally covers OB in the OB Rag blogsite. Perhaps his contentious reputation precedes him here but this smells like "politics" pure-and-simple.

Do You Believe in Time Travel?
This is a very succinct review of that awesome show. Everyone around me looked to be in some kind of suspended state of euphoria just to have Tool up on stage in front of them. Maynard took care to have the seating go all the way up to the stage-NO MOSH PITS! I am sure that 2004 Street Scene still haunts him to this day! The visuals and videos used during the shows were top notch and I still am amazed at how the lattice-like light fixtures descended and green strobe lights were filtered through them to achieve a green-house-type netting affect over the entire Arena. Though Tool may seem superficially like another head-banger metal band; they are so much more than that. With attention paid to their lyrics-they are the thinking man(and woman's)hardcore band and I would state unequivocally-YOU are a FOOL if you miss TOOL!

Like Raw Meat
Thanks for all the comments. I got bit by a sting ray last summer on San Diego Bay and I know how horrible it is. I have to say that it really was a crazy afternoon at La Jolla Shores. The water was still fairly chilly for the time of year and I have to think the tide coming in around 3 p.m. is what brought all the sting rays up closer to shore. My heart went out to that poor woman in such distress with the bad bite. She was totally losing it and the SD Lifeguards were being so great & professional. Want to thank Kelsey Bray for being there with a good cell phone camera because my digital camera needed new batteries! Gail Powell.

The death and attempted suicide of Ginger and Frank Bass
What this story also shows is how you think you know someone and marry them. Sometimes people change. Or they are very moody. Such as what happened with Frank Bass. He, apparently was one of those "mean drunks." Not to mention a skirt-chaser too. Falling in love and marrying another person is always a leap of faith. My own first marriage went south just like this one did. In breaking up, I suffered the very same threats, physical abuse and fears as Ginger did. I would have advised her to head up north to her mother and try and get out of town. Make it difficult for the ex to find her and lay low for a while. I know this is hard to do when you have a job, friends, and family here but look at the alternative. She is dead now. My heart goes out to the family but I hope some clueless women can get some knowledge that it is not always champagne and roses in a marriage. If you have the ill fortune to marry a man that you must tip toe on eggshells to live with-GET OUT NOW!

However, these glad tidings of Robin Roth's reemergence have a bit of a sad tinge as they come about on the departure of the well-liked Mookie.— October 29, 2010 8:43 a.m.
Good luck resisting that!— October 25, 2010 9:46 a.m.
The parking may be more problematic, but you will have an easier time of reading that book or not getting ogled by grandpas!— October 25, 2010 7:02 a.m.
Hallelujah!— October 19, 2010 8:50 p.m.
He said that in the 1970's, he posed for Playgirl magazine to get some publicity and instead got his first porn movie invitation instead.— October 10, 2010 7:31 p.m.
And also how they don't "hate" any one group and even "love" their churlish "neighbors!" That would make a much better story than the one he presently has featured in stringers, sorry to say.— September 17, 2010 12:02 p.m.
Perhaps his contentious reputation precedes him here but this smells like "politics" pure-and-simple.— August 26, 2010 8:20 p.m.
With attention paid to their lyrics-they are the thinking man(and woman's)hardcore band and I would state unequivocally-YOU are a FOOL if you miss TOOL!— July 20, 2010 1:24 p.m.
Gail Powell.— July 16, 2010 10:33 a.m.
If you have the ill fortune to marry a man that you must tip toe on eggshells to live with-GET OUT NOW!— June 4, 2010 11:09 a.m.
