Never homeless: Ripped off in Mission Bay Park
Suicide, as a sober biker I knew once said, is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, Woman left? Oh well. Been there. But homeless? Never, Thank God for that. Get off the street, man. By any means necessary. Get a roommate, find some cheap lodgings anywhere. You've got public transport down, so commuting is not a problem. You won't find a lot of mercy or kindness on the street. So don't be where you're not wanted. Believe it or not, coming up with the rent every month and paying bills always gave me a sense of accomplishment, even if I only had $40.00 to last me 2 weeks. And having a roof over the head and a heated room during a cold rainy night sometimes feels like Heaven. Get to work on your situation. Don't give up.— March 22, 2014 11:22 a.m.
Scandia Motel sits nearly vacant
Who wants to hang out in Carlsbad? Yuppies, that's who. Kids on Spring Break want to go where the fun is--PB, OB or MB...maybe Encinitas. Par-TEEEE!!!— March 22, 2014 11 a.m.
Don't Embarrass the Hells Angels
I had this impacted lower molar that was killing me. So I walked into a biker bar and screamed "ALL YOU PUSSY BIKERS SUCK!!!!!" And when I woke up, my molar didn't hurt anymore. Great buncha fellers.— February 8, 2014 11:13 a.m.
Don't Embarrass the Hells Angels
Well, I would never go out of my way to antagonize a biker, much less a Hell's Angel. But my experience with these so called tough guy biker types is that they're just plain run of the mill bullies, looking to constantly prove their manhood by beating people up. Not impressed by either of these two knuckle heads.— February 8, 2014 11:02 a.m.
Brett Stalbaum's Gun Geo Marker already hacked
Gun owners are "anti gun safety"? It's this liberal bigotry and ignorance that has convinced millions of former Californians to flee the state. But please continue. California is increasing it's efforts to disarm the populace, and opening the flood gates to illegal immigration. Got news for you--Mexico's drug cartel violence is coming to San Diego, given it's proximity to the border. So keep encouraging them to come in. And please, give them welfare and unemployment, and drivers licenses so that they can vote illegally in our elections. One thing we can count on is the end result of ever increasing liberalism--FAILURE— November 17, 2013 7:52 a.m.
Citizen repossesses stolen bike in Ocean Beach
Yeah, San Diego's finest at work. They were a little upset he didn't call them when he first noticed the bike? They probably wouldn't have even responded if he had called. What a joke. The guy did the right thing, and he did have a right to defend himself once the homeless hag started spitting on him. Depending what diseases she's carrying, it could be assault with a deadly weapon or even attempted murder if she has HIV. The homeless have an increasing sense of entitlement, because society has classified them as victims. Most of them are victims of their own design and addictions. Good for you, Jay. You kept your cool and played by the rules. As for SDPD, worthless as usual. Keep up the bad work.— September 28, 2013 9:16 a.m.
On The Strip: Las Vegas, Nevada
I left beautiful Ocean Beach in the summer of 2001. I left begrudgingly, but I left because the greed head landlords in San Diego decided to hike rents through the roof. Rent was fairly cheap when I arrived in Vegas. I was renting a 1 bedroom apartment at Sahara & Durango with central ac, a washer and dryer, a fireplace, and a community pool and gym for less than $600.00/month. Once I paid down my personal debt, I bought a no down house, which is now under water mortgage-wise, since the housing crash. I have a good job. I usually gross around 82-84k before taxes. As for "loving" Vegas...meh!! Traffic sucks. And a lot of the residents are crazy, stupid, or a combinatioon of the 2. I loved San Diego, but I couldn't afford the life and the taxes. Come to Vegas. Drink. Gamble. See a show. Then go home. It's not for everyone. And stay at a nice hotel. I would recommend the Mandalay Bay. It's still my favorite. Viva Las Vegas!!— January 8, 2012 6:53 p.m.
So Much Things to Say
I lived in OB for about 5 years in the mid 90's. And the biggest blight on the community was not the dog poop, even though that came in a close 2nd. It was the bums. I won't call them homeless, as that has a tendency to evoke sympathy for these wretches. They are BUMS. Most of these nitwits are able bodied, and could work if they possessed an ounce of self-respect, which they don't. In OB, panhandling is actually a job and a way of life for many people. But that job description is PARASITE. They live off the generosity of hard working people, who have jobs and work hard to pay the steep rents, mortgages, and taxes in OB. But I'm supoposed to give up some of my hard earned money so some low life can chug a few beers and feel good for a few hours, and forget what a low life pos he is. I say good for The Black. I shopped there often when I lived there. And I shop there still, when I visit. But I do not give money to bums. Them I'll gladly boycott.— August 15, 2010 12:05 a.m.
San Diego Police's Serial Inebriate program
Nice story, and very relevant to my own experiences. I ended up in a downtown rehab in 1988, which was right next the Detox on Island Ave. It was called the 7 Day program. It was a residential program, with 3-4 guys sharing a dorm...3 hots and a cot, and lots of AA meetings for 7 days straight. It literally saved my life. And it didn't cost much, $75.00 total. I remember when I applied to the program, the counselor told me that they could take me in a week, but that I had to attend one meeting a day, and that the AA meeting secretary had to sign my application, to prove that I had actually attended the meeting. Hell, I couldn't even do that. That's how gone I was. Like a lot of people, I still struggle with alcoholism, but the claws aren't dug into me like they used to be, and I want to get sober and stay sober until the end of my days. The important thing about being a drunk is that there isn't much difference between a drunk who has shelter, and one who doesn't. We drink because we are unhappy. There's no other explanation, as far as I'm concerned. I'm much happier being sober. Great article.— August 16, 2009 2:56 a.m.
Surf Nazi Hate Crime
Good for you, dudester. I hear so many of these lame surfer stories regarding "locals" and their turf. The beach is for everyone, and the waves are for surfers. The guy was obviously a punk. He starts a fight with you, gets his ass kicked, then goes running to the cops. PUSSY is the word. But then you went back out and surfed some more. Awesome!! That alone should qualify you as a new local. The racial slurs that were tossed at you were pretty lame, too. But again, the last refuge of cowards. But seriously, black people surf??????— May 11, 2009 5:02 a.m.
