Che Cafe supporters stage violent uprising against UCSD campus authorities
Is the Che Cafe the same venue that turned off Andy Dick's mike mid performance? If not, never mind. But if it is, it deserves to be shuttered for censoring politically incorrect speech.— March 29, 2015 4:40 p.m.
This week in the Jazz clubs, February 4–8
Ditto for positive comments. It's nice to know that San Diego still has some appreciation for the greatest music ever created. I live in Vegas for some years now, and it's a desert--literally and musically as it pertains to jazz. Think I'll have to take a road trip and check out some of these venues.— March 29, 2015 4:37 p.m.
neighborhoods/ocean-beach -- Ocean Beach
Actually slipped on the wet rocks a few years ago. Beware. But it is a very cool walk, and is reasonably secluded.— December 20, 2014 4:30 p.m.
My daughter told us in Marina Village parking lot that she is heroin addict
Take it from someone who was addicted to drugs and alcohol for years--recovery is possible, but beware the call of the wild. It can happen during the best time of her recovery, when she feels so good, that she'll be convinced that she is " cured". That's when she is the most vulnerable. Trust me, I know.— December 13, 2014 4:31 p.m.
Ryan Leaf released from Montana prison
Another milestone in a brilliant career. I long for the days when Gene Klein single handedly destroyed his own team.— December 8, 2014 8:04 a.m.
Sorry, Hells Angels
Knowing what I know of biker gang types from my personal experiences with these societal bullies, strangely, I feel no outrage. CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!— October 11, 2014 12:33 p.m.
Why more people leave than enter San Diego
I thought I would never leave San Diego. I grew to love this city. The last place I lived in was Ocean Beach, which became my sanctuary from reality. But life became too expensive to justify a 1 bedroom apartment with no AC and no washer, dryer, and dishwasher, which are all pretty standard in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, I'll probably never go back.— October 5, 2014 10:22 a.m.
Did Chris Kyle deck Jesse Ventura at McP's in Coronado?
This is an interesting article. I realize that Ventura can be a handful when it comes to issues like 9-11, but I always found it hard to believe that he would intentionally bad mouth a group of SEALs, especially at a memorial. Since Ventura is suing because he claims the punch out DIDN'T happen, the lawsuit makes sense. If he was suing Kyle alone for bad mouthing him in his book and on TV, it seems more likely he would have dropped the suit once Kyle had died, especially if he is worried about his reputation. As for whether Ventura was a real SEAL, who knows and who cares? UDT guy or frogman, it doesn't matter much to me. I have known guys who have lied about their "Special Forces" careers in order to get an edge in competitive employment. Real Spec Ops guys don't brag. I like Ventura. He's honest and he seems sincere most of the time.— July 20, 2014 3:52 p.m.
Mystery assault in front of Fry's Electronics
Interesting story. Don't know what to make of it other than you got screwed by the system, big time. Any chance your assailant might have been an off duty cop? That seems possible, since you still don't have the identity of your attacker. That would certainly explain what is obviously a cover up. Good luck with your case. Keep at it. Make sure they know you're not going away.— July 5, 2014 5:04 p.m.
neighborhoods/lakeside -- Lakeside
Lived in Lakeside for 3 years. Rented a shack on Valle Vista. Loved it— March 22, 2014 11:36 a.m.
