Chula Vista addresses homeless crisis
Are these county offices? Why is it that we didn't know anything about this until now?— March 17, 2016 9:56 a.m.
Chula Vista’s city jail loses major green

Chula Vista’s city jail loses major green
Sold down the river. Which is probably why it was so difficult to get anyone to listen regarding the rampant corruption in Sweetwater UHSD...in the minds of the "leaders", we were, apparently, already "history". Despite paying top dollar for homes and paying Mello-Roos in staggering amounts.— March 17, 2016 9:50 a.m.
A new newspaper for I.B.
Will they be printing the "police blotter"? That is rather important these days as news reports grow scarcer and scarcer. There are at least a couple of online crime reports, but they tend to be incomplete.— March 14, 2016 1:21 p.m.
Will the NFL be as powerful in three decades?
Ain't that the truth.— March 13, 2016 9:12 a.m.
Chula Vista addresses homeless crisis
Is there a way to find out when these organizations opened up in this area? It doesn't sound like there was much--if any--advance warning, or community participation. While we don't really want to be a nation of NIMBYs, I think it needs to be recognized when a community has become an "easy solution" for everything all the other communities do not want. Chula Vista does not need to be the dumping ground of the county, but it is beginning to look like that is what the rest of the county wants. I would like a bit more information regarding those being brought in by bus for treatment--where, exactly, are they coming from. If there are so many of them being brought in, why isn't the treatment facility where they live?— March 13, 2016 8:57 a.m.
Chula Vista addresses homeless crisis
Studies that have been reported on in the past year or so have been showing that once those who are homeless have housing, it is much easier to treat the other issues or problems, and some real progress can be made. Thanks to all who continue to work for solutions in this area.— March 11, 2016 3:24 p.m.
Jail diplomas in demand
Or perhaps no one was looking very hard?— March 10, 2016 6:34 p.m.
Unrestrained boosterism and biased reporting in U-T’s future?
It is all rather frightening. I wonder what would be said about the position of "Advertising Content Strategist" in Journalism schools? A way to get your foot in the door? A necessary evil? A way to attract the much-needed advertising dollar?— March 10, 2016 6:31 p.m.
Educational turf war down south
Obviously the Charter School issue needs to be sorted out. Have we heard anything from the County Board of Education regarding this? Any public statement? Any publicity release? No? Guidelines need to be established, if they have not been already. If guidelines regarding charter schools have been established, they need to be made public. Loopholes that allow problems to occur need to be dealt with. Boundaries exist for a reason, and when individuals and groups choose to ignore boundaries, more problems will take place. It is true--the shoe might be on the other foot for Chula Vista Elementary School District, as they have created charter schools that impinge on Sweetwater's 7 - 12 grade territory. So--does all of this need to go to court, or can it be handled by our County Board of Education actually doing something to earn their pay? Or---is this task far beyond their paygrade and ability? It is great that the parents of students at this charter school are pleased with their children's new-found enthusiasm for learning. I would be interested in learning the specifics thereof.— March 6, 2016 12:11 p.m.
