"I was one of the physicians caring for Dorian...It is clear he is and probably always was an insecure, angry, and self-absorbed person...He comes across as an immature, careless person." Dr. Shiny Black Shoes is that you? Must be. You know doctor, (showing my maturity by not typing out your real name), I might be an angry, insecure person, and my judgement may have been off but doctor you forget one thing; I had a traumatic brain injury and I was two days out of a coma. What's your excuse? Maybe I was in better condition than I thought, even with a head injury I could see the type of person you are. As for the rest of the staff at Alvarado Hospital, they were great. And as for the doctors and nurses at Scripps; they saved my life. The therapists at Sharp; they informed me about my injury. You did nothing. Oh, and once my insurance handles all of my claims, the check will be in the mail. Buy some new shoes or something, anything to distract people from seeing the person you are. Thanks for the confirmation, doctor.

Dorian Hargrove suffers life-changing skateboard accident
Aimee and I would like to thank all of you for your comments. They mean so much. I spoke to high school students in La Mesa today about my injury. I wouldn't have been able to muster the courage to do so without your support. Thanks. --Dorian and Aimee

Dorian Hargrove suffers life-changing skateboard accident
MattyBizzle, man you just made my day. Thanks for the comment. I know they look lame but imagine wearing one everywhere you go for months, or, well, you know the rest. It's one thing knowing how to fall, but when you don't have your hands free, in my case the leash was wrapped around it, there's not much else that can stop you besides your head. As for surfing, it felt great. Got a few compliments while I was out there, though, I think the scar had a huge part to play in that! Thanks, Matty. Keep spreading the word!

Dorian Hargrove suffers life-changing skateboard accident
Thank you everyone, for all of the amazing comments. I have learned a lot from this experience. One thing I have learned is how caring and supportive people are. It means a lot to read your comments. So thank you. Response to #20: Ermie, you're right, texture is big. Not having any taste also allows me to eat healthier. Now, if only Aimee can remember to stop asking me how things taste when I am eating, everything will be fine!

Dorian Hargrove suffers life-changing skateboard accident
Thanks for the support. Jamie, sorry to hear about your dad. I can only speak from my experience, it's a tough injury because no one can really understand it unless they go through it. The rage and the childish behavior are still there for me and I know it's hard for those around me to see. One thing that does make a difference is having people and family there for support, even if they don't understand it. I'm sure your dad felt the same. And Erik. thanks for the comment and for spreading the word. Apparently when I was in the coma there was a guy next to me with a head injury from skateboarding. He didn't have the same fortune that I had. It's amazing how often it happens. Keep up the good work, send those links if you get a chance and let me know if you ever need a volunteer. --Dorian

Curfew Confusion
CF, thanks for the comment. Neither program, SIx to Six or CALGRIP, was mentioned during the meeting. I did find a press release about the new curfew on Dianne Jacob's website. Here's a sample of the press release: "Statistics reveal that the hour between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. is prime crime time for kids. By enforcing the earlier curfew we can ensure that kids are exactly where their families believe them to be,” Jacob said. Local statistics suggest that the enforcement of an earlier curfew will lessen the number of crimes against juveniles and especially target violent crimes." Dorian

San Diego Unified charges all kinds of illegal fees
Jassatero, I did interview other people: Brandais from SDUSD, as well as a teacher to get her opinion. Did you not "see" those interviews? Seems pretty balanced to me. Thanks.

San Diego Unified charges all kinds of illegal fees
Jassatero, the article is not about the SSC voting Smith off of the council, but instead about Smith's fight against student fees. And NLEE, Smith knew she would be voted off from emails that Principal Jimenez had sent prior to the meeting. The issue for Smith, and others, is that the agenda item was vague. Now, if both of you disagree with Smith and believe students should pay fees for extra-curricular activities and for school supplies then that is your opinion.

San Diego Unified charges all kinds of illegal fees
Cuddlefish I catch your drift on the Title I funding. Here's SDUSD's explanation: "The School Site Council (SSC) is a decision-making group that provides oversight on matters dealing with federally- and state-funded compensatory education programs, including Title I, Title I Parent Involvement, School-based Coordinated Program, School and Library Improvement Block Grant, and Economic Impact Aid/Limited English Proficient programs. The School Site Council is required at all schools in the San Diego Unified School District." The last sentence threw me off. Thanks for the clarification! Dorian

Bitter Grounds
Some good questions for a follow-up article, Ponzi. I'll have more after the March 19 court date! Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation, doctor.— April 28, 2010 1:45 p.m.

Aimee and I would like to thank all of you for your comments. They mean so much. I spoke to high school students in La Mesa today about my injury. I wouldn't have been able to muster the courage to do so without your support. Thanks. --Dorian and Aimee— April 26, 2010 3:34 p.m.

Keep spreading the word!— April 22, 2010 5:11 p.m.

Now, if only Aimee can remember to stop asking me how things taste when I am eating, everything will be fine!— April 22, 2010 11:39 a.m.

--Dorian— April 21, 2010 2:16 p.m.
Local statistics suggest that the enforcement of an earlier curfew will lessen the number of crimes against juveniles and especially target violent crimes." Dorian— April 19, 2010 9:26 a.m.
San Diego Unified charges all kinds of illegal fees
Jassatero, I did interview other people: Brandais from SDUSD, as well as a teacher to get her opinion. Did you not "see" those interviews? Seems pretty balanced to me. Thanks.— March 25, 2010 7:14 p.m.
Now, if both of you disagree with Smith and believe students should pay fees for extra-curricular activities and for school supplies then that is your opinion.— March 24, 2010 1 p.m.
Dorian— March 17, 2010 6:16 p.m.
Bitter Grounds
Some good questions for a follow-up article, Ponzi. I'll have more after the March 19 court date! Thanks.— March 6, 2010 10:20 a.m.
