Councilwoman Zapf dodges financial hardship
Who cares! Councilmember Zapf will be reelected, her husband will go on to presumably make money, her children will grow old and I will lose my campaign in opposition SD CC D2 in a landslide all due to the SD Lincoln Club and million dollar folks that contribute maximum donations to her campaign! Who the hell cares!! Nobody, otherwise consultants like Tom Shepard would not sleep at night and trust me he does sleep well!! SD , you are one dumb City! Zapf's husband files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy
Mr. Don Bauder, if I had a blueblood name as yours I would not even comment. Do you realize in all your splendid wisdom that I'm totally ignored in this town. The French have an old saying, "Les Americains ont fait le cinema." You folks have no idea what it's like to campaign with the name Smiechowski. I'm proud of my Papa and Grandpa! Problem is, folks like you have it too easy, too pushy in fitting in a culture where most folks succeed by conformity. Take your Blog with you, Mr. Bauder!! I'm finished!! No good SD blueblood will vote Smiechowski anyway. Can you imagine a name like mine on the City Council. I'll bet you would consider that a disgrace. What you don't know of my background and accomplishments will not hurt you. Bonne chance, bon courage! Au revoir...— June 4, 2017 7:34 p.m.

Although I am Lorie Zapf's opponent in the D2 race, I must say that in my 50 years covering local politics, these family connected financial matters will not diminish her chances of reelection. It's merely a tempest in a teapot. Honestly, after having viewed San Diego politics since 1967, this is much ado about nothing. Having said that, I would be honored to have your vote. Danny D2 Candidate SD City Council ps Get over my last name boys and girls! I'm the best qualified!!!— June 4, 2017 9:52 a.m.

I am not qualified to comment on the truth of what exactly transpired but I do know that Councilmember Zapf is a good Mother and to some extent doing the best she can on our City Council. Those words may seem strange coming from her opponent as I'm contesting the seat in D2. But the words of Dave Scott at the Nice Ironman World Championship in 1985 still ring in my ears as I was a competitor, replying to John Tesh, "The Man" replied to a question on why Dave liked it when his fellow triathletes saw the back of his head on the final leg being the marathon run, he stated, "Because I understand they are suffering as much as myself." We forget through our weakness in the human condition that we all suffer the same fate and are equal at the grave. Daniel "Danny" Smiechowski D2 Candidate SD City Council God bless all of you!!!! I wish Councilmember Zapf the best. She is a good Mother. I'm sorry for her plight.— June 3, 2017 4:19 p.m.
Why Occupy San Diego?
Why we all occupy Wall Street Daniel J. Smiechowski From a social-psychological view the national manifestations on Wall Street are a result of the piano man versus cop syndrome or creativity and obedience. More simply, the protest can be described as inherent to society's pressure valve of conflict and order. So, what's new? We have been down this road for the past ten thousand plus years. But, here's the twist. As members of the human species, we are genetically programmed to resist. It remains a false notion to feign control since everyone squirms while led to the gallows. Some events of the 1960’s illustrate this point. During this time, America was polarized by conflict and order. Just ask Lt. Calley and Commander Loyld Bucker. As for Mr. Calley, the ringleader of the massacre at Mai Lai in Vietnam, his immoral and illegal actions were in large measure condoned by the law and order folks. This is not control. The same mentality stood silent with respect to our National Guard's slaughter of students at Kent State. This is not control. And why was Commander Bucker vilified by the same illogical notion of law and order in regard to North Koreas' taking of the Navy Vessel Pueblo? This is not control. The protesters have morally legitimate concerns just as those before them, naming Martin Luther King Jr. Bobby Kennedy and Cesar Chavez. When captains of industry and corporate giants including America's largest banks kick us in the teeth while on our knees there evolves a natural human response. As with the US Automakers, our largest banks were saved by the federal government only to turn immorally on the same folks that saved them. This is not control. When one is powerless and consumed by injustice, we all suffer the trappings of immorality. Only the fools among us believe in order and control. When the tables are turned, we all are in the same boat. May the protesters bring justice to our great nation.— October 25, 2011 4:22 p.m.
