Proposed settlement will cost SDG&E, Edison $873 million
As I recall, UCLA was supposed to get $25 million from the utilities to pay for greenhouse gas research. Instead, the new agreement includes a provision that utility shareholders will provide $12.5 million to fund research at the California State University system to address mitigation and reduction of GHG emissions and to facilitate the adoption of renewable energy sources in rural and impoverished communities. No specific campuses have been spelled out, at least as of yet. The sum reportedly originally proposed for UCLA was said to be $25 million. So, is it really better that the money, only half that amount over the next 5 years, is spread around among several campuses instead?— February 4, 2018 8:22 a.m.
Scripps plagued by vehicular vandalism
Yeah, except that is actually a 1968 Chevelle, not a "1970s" Chevelle.— December 4, 2017 7:33 a.m.
Shocker! CPUC unanimously thumbs down SDG&E
Unless I am mistaken, and I don't believe that I am, she is still on the Sempra board. She was appointed to the board in 2013, after she announced that she would be leaving the GS Chicago office and returning to LA as a partner in a law firm. She is also a board member for several other companies.— December 1, 2017 2:48 p.m.
Congresswoman claims a Filner groping (years ago)

If there’s a vote on San Diego's convention center...
don bauder, The BASEBALL ALMANAC does indeed list the All-Star Game attendance at 51,549. Unfortunately, that figure is NOT for the 2016 game in Petco, but instead for the 1978 game at what was then San Diego Stadium. The Almanac does list the 2016 ASG at Petco attendance at the afore mentioned 42,386. OOPS! http://www.baseball-almanac.com/asgbox/all-star-g…— November 23, 2017 10:56 a.m.
County unemployment falls, jobs gain
alex clarke I am 61 years old and have lots of letters behind my name. And I can guarantee that if I were looking for work, not only would those letters NOT help, but they would, in fact, be a hindrance.— November 20, 2017 7:51 a.m.
Cory Briggs sues Navy, Edison, SDG&E, Dept. of Defense
Your sources tell you it will be 25 years to decommission. Interesting. My "sources" tell me that complete site restoration, which among other things includes decontamination and dismantling of all major components, building decon, and removal of the spent fuel and completion of the ISFSI, which is , of course the only true measure of decommissioning, is not expected to be completed until 2052. That is of course, **ONLY** if things go as planned **AND** a site is created to store the spent fuel. Personally, at 61 years old, I don't expect those domes to disappear during my lifetime.— November 18, 2017 8:25 a.m.
Vagrants and adversaries, make way for Target
There was also a JC Penney that opened in the Chula Vista Center, not too long after the center opened. It has been probably at least 15 years since I was there, but unless they have moved since then, I think the Penney store is still in the same original building on the Broadway side. I seem to vaguely remember from a trip to San Diego in the early 60's that there was another oldie but goody there, an SS Kresge store.. I seem to remember getting a sub sandwich there. There was one in Tucson close to where my dad worked, and when he had to work on a Saturday, my mom and I would go have lunch with him and get subs from there.— November 17, 2017 10:08 a.m.
Disposal of nuclear waste: think Camp Pendleton
don bauder, Actually, Pres. Carter was not a nuclear engineer. He was chosen for the nuclear submarine program in 1952, later being assigned to Schenectady, New York in March of 1953, where he took graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics. However, after his father died, he resigned his naval commission and he was honorably discharged from the Navy in late 1953. Not to worry though. I always thought the same thing, until I read his biography— November 16, 2017 11:10 p.m.
As aviation-gas lead drops over Serra Mesa...
Most older cars can run unleaded with no problem. Without getting too technical, it has to do with wear on soft exhaust valves and valve seats without the lead compounds formed by combustion acting as a lubricant to prevent valve seat recession. I have a few pre-1971 muscle cars, all of which have had head work done on them, including replacing valves and seats with modern, hardened parts. I run high octane and even with 10-10.5 compression, I haven't had any problems.— November 16, 2017 10:40 p.m.
