Rabobank banked millions in untraceable cash
I did recently read an article that said the bank's VP of compliance entered into a deferred prosecution agreement for his role in aiding and abetting the bank's failure to maintain an anti-money laundering program, in return for becoming a cooperating witness against other bank executives and that the investigation is still ongoing.— February 10, 2018 10:57 a.m.
Tronc planning to sell L.A. Times and Union-Tribune
According to the LATimes when he invested $70 million in tron 2 years ago he said " he wanted to "save the integrity" of the publication" and "We need newspapers," "We need this intellectual integrity. We need writers and editors who are passionate about this work." In a statement, Soon-Shiong said, "We look forward to continuing the great tradition of award-winning journalism carried out by the reporters and editors of the Los Angeles Times, The San Diego Union-Tribune and the other California News Group titles."— February 7, 2018 10:35 a.m.
The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
don bauder Actually, I am not suggesting anything. Mine was simply to the comment made by AlexClarke. And that is that OT laws are regulated by the government and that it is required to a minimum rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay, but can be more. I was and am making no other comment on any other subject.— February 7, 2018 10:24 a.m.
Broadcom makes another Qualcomm offer
Right. But the salient point is that General Dynamics did leave San Diego and did leave a huge hole for those that had worked in the aerospace industry including all of those in less skilled, non engineering/scientific positions. Granted, some 20 years down the road, NASSCO operations are larger than they when GD bought the company, as one would hope, if not expect. But, there is no question that when General Dynamics folded the Convair operations in the mid 1990's it left a big whole in San Diego, one that remained unfilled for many years. I know/knew quite a few people who worked for GD, friends and family of friends and the like. The ones that were in divisions that were sold did OK, for the most part. But I knew a few who worked at Convair, not so much. We lived in San Diego until 1994 and were in San Diego frequently between 1994 and 2000, while my wife's aunt was still alive. As I recall from your previous writings, and correct me if I am mistaken, you were not in San Diego at that time. I believe that may have been during the time when you were in Palm Springs?? In any case, perhaps those of us that were In San Diego and have/had personal relationships with people who worked at General Dynamics are somewhat more cognizant of the real world effect the departure of General Dynamics had on San Diego.— February 7, 2018 9:57 a.m.

The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
Yes, and even though SDPD pay is in their contract, Federal labor laws still apply; overtime is pay at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay. One would have to believe that the definition of OT is in the contact, as well as how it is paid.— February 6, 2018 9:04 p.m.
Tronc planning to sell L.A. Times and Union-Tribune
At the end of last year, Soon-Shiong was listed as having a net woth of $8.5 billion. That is less than half of the $20.6 billion listed net worth of Elon Musk. Interestingly, in 2016 Soon-Shiong's net worth was almost double what it is now.— February 6, 2018 9:03 p.m.
Broadcom makes another Qualcomm offer
As I remember it, and somebody can correct me if I am wrong, by the early 1990's, GD had sold off most of their divisions in SD.The missile division, electronics division, data division and some others were gone while we were still living there. And right around the time we moved, in 1994, they closed Convair, which marked the end of the General Dynamics in San Diego. I think there were 2 or 3 thousand employees who lost their jobs when they closed. I believe it wasn't until 4 or 5 years later that GD bought Nassco. So yeah, I would agree that they left a hole when they left and really didn't fill that hole by just putting their name on an existing business.— February 6, 2018 8:46 p.m.
The ol' annual Super Bowl shakedown
Actually, it is not. Federal law dictates that overtime is pay at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay. It can be more, but not less.— February 5, 2018 1:02 p.m.
