South Bay Expressway to Be Leased by SANDAG
The SANDAG board is composed of the mayors. Mayor Cox has already trumpeted her opinion that the road, which has no traffic and doesn't work for most people in Eastlake, should be bought. Hmmm I wonder how the decision will go?— August 3, 2011 4:28 p.m.
How Did We Get in This Mess at Southwestern College and Sweetwater Union?
Didn't the UT post a hand-written exit contract with Gandara? Why would a highly sophisticated attorney not have on hand a computer and a printer? That seemed odd as if to appear they just thought of drawing up the contract. I don't think the district can move forward as long as they have the same attorney firm.— July 22, 2011 10:35 a.m.
Sweetwater Union Interim Superintendent Ed Brand’s Past
What interests me is all the crossover names. Dragon the former Sweetwater finance officer, (isn't he doing the same out in east county?) Himelstein from Sweetwater Education Foundation and formerly the cal dept of education. And of course Alevy, the guy with the big PR contract and non-existent meetings, also on the Sweetwater Education Foundation. Then I recall Alevy and Brand's name were very linked during the drive to pass prop bb.— July 11, 2011 12:38 p.m.
Superintendent Jesus Gandara “Separated” From Sweetwater Union High School District
I think Visduhs right. Lay the choice of the superintendent and the extension of the contract at the feet of the board members who are responsible--a lot of 4-1 votes indicate Lopez did the right thing. As for the rest of them, I second Visduh--Vote the bums out.— June 22, 2011 10:48 a.m.
Sweetwater Unified High School District Boardmember Seeks Removal of Superintendent Jesus Gandara
This is unacceptable public deception--to change the location of a meeting one working day before the meeting is to take place--and to move to a school that is not at all centrally located. I wonder if they'll call the police on attendees again... What a mistake that Cartmill and Ricasa just got elected again.— June 19, 2011 11:16 a.m.
Sweetwater Union High School District Money Trail Gets Longer
I was going to ask, Where are the other board members? But this article answers my question.— June 7, 2011 6:33 p.m.
Does Sweetwater’s Hiring of Greg Vega Constitute Conflict?
The issue here is Bonifacio Garcia. He's been overcharging and misguiding the district for years. And wasn't he the attorney for the Otay Water District as well? Now we hear Garcia has hired Dan Hom as well as Alevy? No wonder Bertha Lopez had trouble with going with the name Garcia put forward. Birds of a feather.— May 27, 2011 7:11 a.m.
Citizens Denied Attendance to Sweetwater Union High Meeting
The newspapers lately give us a lot of reasons to lack confidence in the district. Gandara as the head of the district and Leopold as mouthpiece obviously need to be ousted. There have been articles in the paper that raise questions about the spending of proposition money as well. It's time to look at the whole picture--the board members as well--even the new board member, John McCann.— May 21, 2011 10:30 a.m.
Chula Vista to Eliminate Redevelopment Corporation?
It seems to me we had redevelopment before we had the CVRC and it worked just as well or just as poorly as it works now, so why have this extra crust? I can't recall what the steps were for a project before the CVRC but simplicity is best. What has the CVRC accomplished?— May 14, 2011 9:53 a.m.
Kurt Donsbach Sentenced to a Year in Jail
I watched the testimony of some of Donsbach's victims. Very moving. As for Sweetwater District. The superintendent looks as unsavory as many of the board members. When I first read about the wedding and the money tree I wasn't that bothered, a wedding is a private affair. But then when you throw in the wasteful credit card expenses--taxpayers' dollars, well it continues to add up. Then another board member had trouble with the FPPC. I think Sweetwater needs to clean house.— April 17, 2011 3:45 p.m.
