Oversight Board Meets to Disband Chula Vista’s Redevelopment Agency
When is an oversight committee most like a redevelopment agency? When the majority of the committee was appointed by people (Coxes) who favor (certain) redevelopment projects. And when the majority of the committee only recently served the redevelopment agency in some capacity. People have been dying to get rid of pension funds. Well how about we let these free market businesses propped up by redevelopment $$$ stand or fall on their own.— April 11, 2012 7:52 a.m.
Chula Vista Considers West-Side Apartment Complex
So how many apartments or residences would be overshadowed by this project? Can that be addressed or is it simply a question of height?— April 5, 2012 11:36 a.m.
New Southwestern Affidavits Released
What a revealing email. Is this business as usual in the public sector as well as the private sector?— March 30, 2012 7:53 p.m.
Sweetwater Contractor Plea Bargains in Corruption Case
visduh, I am beginning to agree with you. We are in political not ethical territory.— March 21, 2012 8:55 p.m.
Homes of Former Southwestern Trustees Searched
omg, is this reality TV? Love to see a chart that connects the dots in South County.— March 20, 2012 9:08 p.m.
Southwestern College Votes for Pay Increases and Campaign Donation Cap
What kind of a message does it send to the community and the campus to hire Sweetwater's media director? I believe Southwestern's old media director left a bad taste in many people's mouths.— March 18, 2012 10:09 a.m.
Reforms in Progress at Southwestern College
I don't see how GCR could just turn in to the district (Sweetwater) redacted invoices...did the board approve them without requiring a breakdown or were they approved by the superintendent...it would have been Gandara. Can't the current board president simply request an itemized receipt for the work done by Focuscom? Amazing how our tax dollars get spent on these kind of things--over and above the person the district already pays salary and benefits to for the purpose of communications.— March 7, 2012 5:23 p.m.
Sweetwater Union HS District Votes to Buy iPads for 7th-Graders
A used car salesman, now that you say it, it really sticks. This enormous, costly, and possibly illegal blunder was pushed through so fast it's riduculous. How much time did parents really have to respond to the idea? Perhaps, the parents would have seen it as more appropriate for seniors? I'd like to have heard from teachers and librarians on this issue. But who am I kidding? Brandara didn't care what the bond committee thought, didn't care what the people who came to speak said, didn't even care what the student representative said. Kudos to Lopez.— February 24, 2012 7:41 a.m.
Bond Oversight Committee’s Suggestions for Sweetwater Union HS District
Visduh, good point about "a normal school district"--this is a highly abnormal situation--so it needs supra-normal oversight. What do we have--an indicted superintendent, two board members and a former board member, ongoing DA investigation into other layers of corruption, suspended bond program manager and questionable use of bond funds, two PR firms, Alevy & Focuscom that did who knows what for the suspended attorney firm GCR, the Vega report which indicates a level of election tampering that should be further investigated, etc It's exhausting just listing it--o yes, and no search committee in sight for a new superintendent.— February 17, 2012 3:12 p.m.
Bond Oversight Committee’s Suggestions for Sweetwater Union HS District
I agree with the bond committee's suggestions. Let's have a full acccounting of bond funds and clarification of proposed projects before we go forward...a temporary halt to Prop O spending till we see what's what. And...I mean really, suddenly the district can propose ipads as a bond expenditure...what will they decide to use the money for next?— February 16, 2012 10:46 a.m.
