My Mother and the Balloon Animals
Hey, shizzyfinn, maybe you just live too close to the airport. :-) May you have a long and happy life.— September 8, 2008 11:18 p.m.
My Mother and the Balloon Animals
Hey, John, We had a great time last night seeing Barry McGuire.— September 7, 2008 11:44 a.m.
My Mother and the Balloon Animals
"You may leave here for four days in space, but when you return, it's the same old place." Hey, John, tomorrow we will be listening to Barry McGuire live, singing Eve of Destruction. (or is it Barry White, a.k.a. the Walrus of Love?)— September 6, 2008 1 a.m.
Summer in Chicago
Riverview! Western & Belmont. The Bobs. The Fireball. Aladdin's Castle. The Caterpillar. The Tunnel of Love. There was nothing like it. Then one summer Riverview disappeared without warning. The property was just too valuable to sustain an amusement park. Years later Great America was built in Gurnee, with a Warner Brothers theme (Bugs Bunny, etc.), but it could not compare. Flash Gordon and Mighty Mouse were on TV in the morning, and in the afternoon Chuck Bill, who had the voice and manner of a drill sergeant, introduced The Phantom Creeps starring Bela Lugosi and a huge robot. On summer afternoons a crowd of youngsters jostled each other on Addison Avenue and waited to see if Ernie Banks would deliver them a souvenir by knocking one out of the park, over the left field wall of Wrigley Field. One summer I saw Ernie do just that, and then in the next inning Willie Mays got up and did the same thing. It was a total slugfest. I think the score was 15 to 17. Life was sweet.— August 27, 2008 11:18 p.m.
America's Finest Fridays
The graphic shows John Brizzolara playing "Louie Louie" at the beach. Chicks go crazy for that song. Nonsequitur. My favorite commercial. Ever since the days when "Gidget" first appeared on television, I have been waiting to see Sally Field get some Boniva. :-)— August 22, 2008 10:14 p.m.
I am, in fact, very much related to Conan the Barbarian and, by extension, the governor of California
Underground comix? What the f@#*'s the deal here?— August 19, 2008 11:32 p.m.
Worst Songs of All Time
OK, but there was a lot of bad music years before these. "I was out on a date in my daddy's car / We hadn't driven very far." etc. Who heard it that can forget it?— August 9, 2008 4:15 a.m.
The Vagaries of Publishing
Bernard Schwartz discussing Archibald Leech, and then imitating him in "Some Like It Hot." "Judy! Judy! Judy!"— July 29, 2008 1:39 a.m.
Dependence Day
What will your Baloney moment be?— July 9, 2008 4:58 a.m.
