UCSD literature majors — why they exist
“The Times Higher Education placed UC San Diego first in its new ranking of the world’s top “Golden Age” universities, which specifically looks at schools founded in the aftermath of World War II.” http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/educatio… Oddly, the picture on top of the UT article linked and quoted above is of the Geisel library. The Geisel library was built in 1970. The structure has been modernized to provide computer stations for a student body of around 10,000 students. However, there are close to 37,000 students enrolled for the 2017 academic year. I believe that this survey was funded or propelled by sources who want to throw shade over this problem. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2017/m…— May 9, 2017 4:31 p.m.

San Diegans will squeeze food money May 8 to 12
Recently, Vons had 18 eggs for $1.49 and cole slaw for $1.99 a lb if you were a vons club member. Also, buy two bunches of parsley or cilantro $1 and clean and fill small plastic jar with greens and cherry tomatoes 99 cents a pint at sprouts and eat that all week. Grow your own mung and lentil sprouts. People on restricted $4.27 a day diets should have been given directions not just cut loose from the spacecraft like HAL did to frank in' 2001 a space odyssey.'— May 8, 2017 12:24 p.m.

San Diego's $2.27 billion pension hole
Relax. San Diego is entering the 'Golden Age of Debt' Like Detroit-GM-The banks-Stockton-Argentina-Greece-have proven its' better to be on the front end with heavy debt rather than be on the backend flush. E.G the towns and cities in Michigan that are flush will pay for the educational budget of their town and Detroit.— September 26, 2016 11:10 a.m.
Aggressive transients put Ocean Beach on edge
Ocean Beach is just a drive by for commercial airlines and the San Diego police. Baghdad car patrol. The cops don't even stop to eat in OB. Coffee and donuts while steering and peering at the freaks. "Taxi driver" in black and whites.. No visual police street presents in OB, except, perhaps presents for that same group of “taxi drivers" constantly congregating outside two local stores laden with bottled beer and liquor for sale. Street present are the crusty winos. Cardboard mats, cardboard colored beer bags, cardboard colored clothing, cardboard colored hair, skin, sand and lovers. Fashion by ‘ beersun&wind’. Toothless mouths squirt saliva and alcoholic juiced slang when probing for spare change and romance. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/ocean-beach…— July 20, 2016 10:18 a.m.
What does the #4011 stand for on banana stickers?

Fired San Diego publisher gets journo school platform
It doesn't seem to matter who owns or sells the UT or who was or will be the publisher the paper is stale and expensive by the time one cracks it open in the morning (especially competing against the free internet vs $1.50 per day). UT refuses to investigate and can be deemed responsible for such moves by the city as to stop listing how much is spent yearly on road repair but switch to a 5yrs and a 1,000 miles.— October 16, 2015 5:19 p.m.
neighborhoods/mission-hills -- Mission Hills
Dear professor Irwin M. Jacobs, Police came to Mission Hills library on Friday Oct 9th at around 5:PM to respond to an assault but because the library doesn't have security cameras there wasn't much hope for the children who use the library. we need cameras at the city libraries not security guards playing with their smart phones— October 9, 2015 5:40 p.m.
Homeless library patrons must park their gear at the door
City libraries mush charter schools, children, parents with strollers. computer rats, newspaper readers, security guards who spend all day on their smart phones and the most contented customers those seeking an air condition place to nap and take a bath. A library patron is not allowed to stand in front of the library board and asked for security cameras: inside and out.— August 6, 2015 11:30 a.m.
