Is Austin, Texas emulating San Diego?
"Papa" Doug can bite me.— June 30, 2013 9:18 p.m.
Two Padres among 25 most overpaid players
What are you going to do? Salary does not influence performance. Everyone is human. The whole thing is stupid.— June 30, 2013 9:16 p.m.
Padres Set Roster
Despite the winning record this preseason, it looks to be a long, painful year. Good luck, Padres! You're going to need it!— April 4, 2012 2:50 p.m.
Cheese Shop
By far my favorite place to get a vegetarian sandwich when I was a student at UCSD back in the late 1980s. I went to the La Jolla Cheese Shop. Just a lovely, lovely feast of vegetables piled on top of delicious bread.— March 10, 2012 12:28 p.m.
Review: Priest
I can't wait for when the sequel, "Minister," comes out. One can only imagine the genre-mixing that will go on in that flick.— May 13, 2011 6:10 p.m.
The Horrible and the Miserable
Lord, this life...it makes me grind my teeth. Hang in there, John. Your thoughtful and honest reflections on life truly touch my heart.— December 9, 2010 10:16 p.m.
Two poems by Walt Whitman
Both poems resonate with me. Whitman--such a master with the free verse!— May 28, 2010 1:43 p.m.
Parker & Numberman Debut Vid, Carly's Evanescence, WTF Album Covers, Song Contest, more
Man, that's so "pop punk." Writing an "angry song" about living in Rancho Santa Fe. None of Black Flag's members wrote songs about that abandoned church they lived in during the late 1970s, if I remember correctly. I guess the "homeowner's association" for that community was pretty cool, though. I love your album covers. You've got a great collection.— February 7, 2010 2:22 p.m.
Pounding the Pavement
You're a great writer--perceptive, sensitive, and spot-on with the cultural metaphors/references. And I love your 'tude. (I also empathize w/you regarding corporate jobs and the advice thing from your mom. I love it when my mom gives me advice since she's the one responsible for my daily dose of 75mg Paxil CR, 2mg of Klonopin, and 600mg of Neurontin. Thanks, ma!) Hang in there.— January 23, 2010 9:36 a.m.
Stairway to Heaven
Your writing is touching and brilliant. It must have been truly horrifying for someone as sensitive and insightful as you to go through all of those things. I am glad that you are able to share them in such a reflective way.— December 14, 2009 4:32 p.m.
