Distress by the Sea

As the writer of this piece, I have to update the accuracy of the story. There is one Board member on the Cardiff School District with children in the district and she is serving her first term in office. Also at the meeting referenced, the board did take action to reinstate 1 of the 3.4 positions that were to be laid off. So that's a 29% rate of returning of laid off teachers into the classroom. Under today's budgets, not many other school district can do the same. Cardiff School Board is trying their best.

They Walked the Line

Maybe the governor pulled the plugged on the computers to let the DMV worker's union, SEIU, know who's boss. Everyone hates the DMV, yet most people don't need to go to the DMV. The guy who's regsitration was due that day could have dropped it in the mail or inside the DMV drop box. Yet they choose to suffer the lines anyway. Most everything can be done on line or by mail, or thru AAA. At least have an appointment for crying out loud, although it wouldn't have helped on that day.

Median Income

I would swear these guys are a roving organized band. A few weeks ago, in the early morning, I saw five of them standing together in a parking lot talking. A few hours later, two of them were on nearby off ramps, one east bound, and the other across the bridge westbound. This was at Hwy. 78 @ Jefferson. The next day, the same two are at I-5 @ Santa Fe Dr. I think it would make a great story to find out if this is true, and how much they rake in every day. I bet it is a lot more than min. wage. If a had an extra few days to grow some stubble, I'd go under cover and do it myself, just to see. I'd even bet they'd try to run me off if I was on one of "their" exits.

Weedy Wheels

A young guy would cross through the Chinese boarder check point each day on a bicycle. The border guard knew the man was smuggling something, and would throughly check him out each day, but never found anything for years. Decades later, now retired, the guard ran into the man. He asked, ":I know your were smuggling something,what was it. The man said . . . Bicycles!

Anita's Mexican Restaurant Cantina

A common mistake - this Anita's, although using the same logo, is not the same ownership or menu as the great original Anita's on Coast Hwy. The food here was uninspiring. I don't think even the chips are homemade anymore, too light and thin, like store bought. I guess what left a bone in my crawl (is that the expression) is that we had an Entertainment coupon for 50% off a 2nd entire. We went for lunch, and the server pointed out the fine print said it was for dinner only. Note to all restauranteurs - You get one change to get a new customer to become a regular one. You make exceptions to welcome a new customer. Now you've lost a potential regular customer. It that worth saving a few bucks?

Big Bore Banter

A tunnel should be built between downtown and the base, avoiding all Coronado streets. Security checks should take place on the SD side. Coronado used to be the only city in California with a cover charge. Maybe the military could change nonmilitary vehicles a fee for using the tunnel?
