Garden State Bagels

If you're a bagel addict, this is the only place to go. Real boiled and baked, thick and chewy bagels, tons of cream cheese. Lunch sandwiches in a bagel have meats piled high. Try the rare and juicy Roast Beef! Used to go to Einstein's Bagels 3x a week, but haven't been back in over a year since discovering Garden State.

Godwin's Cafe at North County Courthouse

There is something weird about this place, inside the North County courthouse (restaurant's entrance is pre-security check). It was mid-morning, the courthouse was full of lawyers, jurors, plaintiffs and defendants - people coming and going. Yet the restaurant was empty. The one-person staff seemed to take along time to make our breakfasts. My biscuits and gravy couldn't be finished - too salty. A bunch of empty glass-doored coolers were stored in a large area of the place - also strange. I asked a court clerk inside why it was empty. She indicated most that work in the courts do not go there anymore.

Going to the Cardiff Elks Lodge to see the Doug and the boys is about as cool as it gets! Think Cheers with a SoCal flavor. It just doesn't get any more "local" than this. My favorite question of the boys was asked, "You've played in the finest clubs and hotels all over the U.S. What did you think when Doug announced you're playing at the Cardiff Elks Lodge?" Hey Doug, how does one get on the private e-mail invite list?

Besta-Wan Pizza House

stantlin's negative experience was probably one of those may times that Bestawan's popularity far outstripped its ability to serve. Unfortunately over the last 10 years I've gone from being the only one in the restaurant to the oldest in the restaurant. The place is extremely popular with 25-30 somethings and gets overcrowded, everyone wanting to have good food and a good time.

Four Wheelin' in Palm Springs

Yes OB Dave, he's wearing a helmet. Its required, along with goggles if one is under 18. Otherwise adults can wear sunglasses, but they recommend goggles for all. They even made him wear long pants, and provided pullover sweats for his shorts, even through there was no exhaust near his legs. But just in case he tipped it over. Safety first with this company. Thanks for your nice words. We had fun, over too soon. SurfPuppy has the right idea, pay for an hour.

Concrete Barriers for I-5 Freeway Expansion Rankles Cardiff Resident

The I-5 ramp widening in Cardiff & Encinitas has been planned for years. It has nothing to do with the proposed 14 lane project which will start, if lucky, by 2020. It continues what was built from Hwy 56 to the Manchester offramp - the adding of an addition lane to keep merging on/off traffic out of the four standard lanes. Perhaps my neighbor Greg shouldn't be driving the fwy if he can't figure out a way safely get on it during the construction?

While we've enjoyed this place in the past, tonight's (10-15-10) service was horrible. After getting menus and drinks, sat for at least 10 minutes, probably 15, before one of three waitresses figured out they hadn't taken our order. She never apologized when asked if we were "doing okay" and advising we haven't ordered yet. When food was served, I asked for a fork, never got one. (Finally asked from sushi chefs.) Never got my soft drink or water refilled. And when we were clearly finished, took forever to get the bill, even though each of the waitresses passed by us numerous times as I was impatiently tapping my credit card on the table. I didn't leave a tip, and didn't say why, but yes, while probably go back.
