In short, we need more guys like Amster to show the over-regulated government (on all levels) that we individuals are still in charge of our own lives, businesses, and property.

Oceanside Code Enforcement Fines Homeowner

Amster owns other properties in the neighborhood and they all were old house that he fixed up, and now they are nice homes for someone. Amster has also fought city hall (Encinitas) over his fines for banners at the bagel shop, and he's won. And do you really think Burwell that O'side code enforcement guys really care about an Encinitas moto officer. I've heard it said from real police that code enforcement guys are only one step above security guards, they couldn't be real cops. So they give them a badge (no gun) and a ticket book have them drive around looking for guys like Amster. Code enforcement is the civil side of law, cops are the criminal side. THey usually don't intertwine unless a code guy finds a dead body inside a long abandon vehicle with a Bush 04 sticker on it.

San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas has a very nice vets memorial for alumni KIA. So far no names have needed to be added for Iraq/Afghan.

It's a raid!

Great story Ken. This writer is very familiar with over-zealous ABC actions over the last 3 decades. Selling alcohol to minors is one thing, but ABC has a clear record of hassling bar owners and trying to shut town independently run big venues.

Fewer people than ever are reading newspapers; electronic media are not making up the difference.

So Don, what are the hopes/fears for our beloved Reader. Ad sales up/down? The best thing any metro paper could do to boost readership would be make the B section their front page. Any world/national story I care about, I've already read on line or seen on TV. Today's (11/9) UT appears to have done that, 5 stories on the front page, all of them local.

Was this a city or county ordinance? I thought city of LA only. If city, there are plenty of other sleezeball cities that would welcome them in LA County, Cahday, Bell, Vernon. According to your "semi-reputable" sources, do they actually have "studios" where an agent could inspect?

Fried Chicken Sandwich Lovers Camp in Encinitas

I wondered what all the tents were for. Thanks for being there to cover it. It used to be a Baja Fresh, not a bank. They tore it completely down and stated over again. Nothing says good chicken like an O'Rielly Auto Parts (larger building attached to the C-F-A building). Am I the only one that doesn't get the hub-bub over C-F-A? The few times I've tried it, it just doesn't spin my spurs.
