Carlsbad Quality Inn to become Holiday Inn Express
I hope they sound proof the rooms facing the freeway. No kids, that's not the ocean waves crashing on the shore that you hear.

neighborhoods/cardiff-by-the-sea -- Cardiff-by-the-Sea
**A Mini-Skateboard Full Pipe in Park Place?** Residents of the Park Place may have been wondering what's up with all the big, black plastic drain pipes that have been sitting idle for months, in the park, near the baseball diamond. The inside scoop is, that the HOA started to lay the pipe in the creek, that would eventually be covered up and made more safe than the 15' - 20' deep ravine that is there now. Problem is, although this is a private 25 acre park, the water in, and where it drains to, it is not. Water rights and drainage rights are given more to the highest source (the few remaining greenhouses on Lake Dr.), and the end receptor (San Elijo Lagoon). Unfortunately the Park Place HOA is right in the middle, and supposedly an over-regulated federal wildlife or environmental agency is now involved because the HOA did not get the necessary permits to be allowed to upset the flow. Also the annual migration of the local Egret that lives in the area part might would be ticked off too, and that would tick of the environmentalists. Everything has ground to a halt. Can anyone ad more info to this post?

**Its for a Good Cause** The Encinitas Lions Club worked two days in one of the beer booths at the annul Gator by the Bay Zydeco Festival in San Diego last Friday and Saturday. Dennis and Sunshine Smith and their crew made over $800 just in tips. Their percentage of the beer sales will be added later. The funds help in many community service projects. One great event the Lions do each year is take blind folks surfing. Wow! Great job Lions!!!!!!

New Walgreens store rises on University Ave. in Hillcrest
Once they open their doors, don't plan on any kind of neighborliness, once they start rotating staff more than I rotate tires. Most corporate chain stores do not know how to be part of a neighborhood community. Their staff will live way outside the community where they work, and have no idea what makes your community tick. Only how to follow corporate policy - which the first person that asks to put up a flyer for a community event will find out when they are told NO. The staff will only know where the nearest fast food lunch place is and the nearest on/off ramp to the freeway. These types of stores take millions of dollars out of our communities, but rarely show up to chambers of commerce meetings, sponsor a little league team, or buy a computer for the local school. Its not in their DNA nor their business model. I hope maybe it is different for this store.

neighborhoods/encinitas -- Encinitas
**Jimmy Hoffa's Body?** Nope, just a huge hole in the ground, right off the Moonlight Beach parking lot at 3rd and C Streets. The huge hole goes way down, more than 20 feet below the street level. They are drilling, adding new sewer pipes underground, rather than rip up the streets to replace. The project is drilling under 3rd St down to the pump station on B St. (Cottonwood Creek), up one block of C St. to the fire station offices, and several blocks down 2nd Street, all mostly to be done underground. It appears that all the dirt being removed is being processed for recycling. Considering the number of gas stations that were along old Hwy. 101, and that every home was on a septic tank up to the 1960s, there may be some other stuff in that dirt.

I think we ought to "bend" the boundary of Santa Fe Dr. to include SRF!

**Last Days For Anderson's** Anderson Stationers, the downtown Encinitas icon, is in its last days, expected to close on Tuesday, April 30. Anderson's is one of the last downtown retail establishments - been around over 40 years, long before the invasion of Italian restaurants, wine bars, and Whole Paycheck grocery stores. Owner Mark Anderson passed away last month.

Hey Jay, love your stuff but the SRF temple has nothing to do with Hare Krishnas. Two different spiritual paths.

Carlsbad Quality Inn to become Holiday Inn Express
I hope they sound proof the rooms facing the freeway. No kids, that's not the ocean waves crashing on the shore that you hear.— May 14, 2013 12:06 p.m.

Can anyone ad more info to this post? http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/may/1…— May 14, 2013 11:55 a.m.

Wow! Great job Lions!!!!!! http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/may/1…— May 13, 2013 4:13 p.m.

I hope maybe it is different for this store.— May 10, 2013 2:39 p.m.

101, and that every home was on a septic tank up to the 1960s, there may be some other stuff in that dirt. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/may/1…— May 10, 2013 2:02 p.m.

Owner Mark Anderson passed away last month.— April 24, 2013 4:44 a.m.
