If James Dean spoke for the masses of youth in the 1950s generation in Rebel Without a Cause, then Bill Jack spoke volumes to us in the early 1970's. BJ was the first film I ordered when I joined Netflix. Who wouldn't remember "I just go berserk!" As whacked out as Tom Laughlin was, what he did against the Hollywood establishment- renting his own theaters and doing his own distribution - and making millions in the process - was incredible.

Study on fast-food workers reveals reliance on tax dollars

Hey Don, I'm not a big dump-on-CEO's fan, but your last line got me. You are correct, in the excessive "gifts" stockholders give to failed leaders. I experienced this in the 90s working for a well known weight loss firm based in Del Mar. (I won't say the name, but the initials are Jenny Craig.) Sid Craig hired his first CEO - Joe LaBonte - background from Nike and Universal Pictures. Nicest guy you'd ever want to work for. Also turns out the smartest because about a year later Joe's fired, but built in a $2 Mil exit parachute into his contract, knowing full well no CEO would be able to tell Sid Craig what to do.

Like most SoCal's folks, I'm getting tried of this issue. Either flood it again, as it was created 100 years ago, or let it go back to desert, as it was a billion years before that.

New Walmart sets up in Oceanside

My sister used to know the manager of the O'side Grants. She shared with me recently that he would get very upset when people called it a 5 & dime. "We are a department store" he would say. Having grown up in Oceanside, I referred to her for the history part of this story. I just remember having to go all the way to the Radio Shack from Cardiff to buy parts for my class electronic projects, so I only remembered Thrifty (for the ice cream) and Radio Shack being there. I remember the Grant's in Vista where we used to eat. The VONS/Trifty combos were totally planed, two major tenants for one shopping center. Both offering different items - VONS - food and Thrifty - pharmacy and household notions - they didn't complete like they do now.

Wells Fargo banker looted accounts, headed for prison

Wells Fargo has a lot of internal theft such as this. I was the victim of an inside job, three days after opening a WF business line of credit, the loan amount was wiped out with a visit to four Home Depots in L.A. over one weekend. And the credit card was in my possession the whole time. The local PD said it had to be an inside WF job. And I still don't know how, just last year, someone charged two one-way tickets to Jamaica on my WF card. Glad they caught this story's perp.

What happens if you rented a video last Saturday night and just never took it back. They're out of business. Are they really going to come looking for you? If you were one day late, they could have you. The FBI, CIA, TSA, ICE, etc. ought to hire the Blockbuster collections people to find terrorists.
