First at beach to break the $3 barrier
At the intersection nearest me, I-5 @ Birmingham, the three stations are all price connected. The USA station is the lowest, the Valero is always about three cents more, and Chevron is always five - seven cents higher than Valero. I was traveling once thru Yuma, AZ, got off the freeway and every one of the 20+ stations down the main drag were the exact same price. Gas is the most spot controlled, price fixed commodity we have, micro-managed, as this article points out, to the exact corner.

Saginaw, MI: first American home of my ancestors
Wow Tamar, great article. Thanks for the work it took to bring it to us. While visiting my in-laws in Northern MI, I found old cemeteries with graves from Revolutionary War vets. Amazing. And its funny, yesterday, just driving around Escondido, I took my 16 year old to his great-grandfather's grave, and wondered too, have I been the only one, since I found it 20 years ago, to visit? It blew him away to be related to someone that was born in 1876. It blew me away that I ended up with the deed to one of the unused family plots, handed down by my grandfather I never knew. But as you say, "Life is for living." My wife says I would love Frankenmuth. But we typically try to avoid the whole Detroit Metro, rust belt area when we travel to MI, which is a beautiful state once one crosses the Bay City bridge.

SeaWorld president out; stock rises
There's no recovery until I can get a home mortgage with just my signature, if were shooting for pre-2007 conditions. But $2.70 gas ain't bad! Now if we can just get the grocery industry to give us back a standard 16 oz of canned whatever and sell us a full 1/2 gallon of ice cream, everything would be fine.

SeaWorld president out; stock rises
The Reader's headline writers come up with the most clever headlines, always an improvement on whatever I have submitted. Aw, to be a comedy writer . . .

Wanted: one cheap deputy
Most every campground host I've met has a few screws loose. Thats why they don't have a home, and live whatever season they are serving, in an RV. But both the city's hosts at Cottonwood Creek and Oak Crest are professional and community minded. But at least in campgrounds, they get paid something, so the campground concessionaire can expect some level of performance, and has can hire and fire. This position will take a special person because of the size of the park and the skateboard element. I can't believe a good person will be found for free. The last thing the city needs for this new park is some old fart who doesn't like those whippersnapper skateboarders. VISDUH is correct, as much as I hate more government employees, especially another law enforcement level of possibly wearing a badge and gun, some type of "ranger" would be best for this park. Perhaps contract with Sheriff's Dept. as NCTD has done for their track and right-of-way patrols.

Why more people leave than enter San Diego
You all are forgetting the key factor, you just can't get cheap three rolled tacos with gauc outside of SoCal. That's why we stay.

Lost GoPro underwater for a year
Update: The camera was returned to its owner, according to finder John LaGrange. The owner saw similar coverage on FOX5 news and contacted them. FB friend Dale Porter - appointing you FB King of Know-it-Alls when it comes to drones. BTW, my friend has a very high end one that does make its own adjustments to unexpected weather - sudden changes in wind speed and direction, thus avoiding operator error in not responding quick enough to keep from crashing.

Walmart protest a call to unionize
The Walton Family gave out $378-million in the last reporting year. And they do not publicly talk about, nor want to be recognized for their gifts. $134-million to education, $55-million to freshwater and marine conservation, and $100 million to colleges and university scholarships. Additionally they are the largest donor to smaller non-profits that support improving life for people in Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta. The Walton Foundation is 2nd in giving only to Bill & Melinda Gates. So in the words of TV's Archie Bunker, "Shad up youz." Thanks for reading.

Walmart protest a call to unionize
I believe the "union" concept in China and Mexico is much different than here in the U.S. I doubt a communist government working in a capitalist global economy would ever allow unions, as we know then here in the U.S.

East Coast Pizza open in Hillcrest
Every New Yawker says its the water that makes their east coast slices great. If that's true, why aren't San Diego's New Yawk-style pizza places bringing in water trucks? BTW - you New Yawkers give yourselves up when trying to be all SoCal, yet still calling it a "pie." A pizza is not a pie, just as Taco Bell doesn't serve Mexican food.

Gas is the most spot controlled, price fixed commodity we have, micro-managed, as this article points out, to the exact corner.— December 15, 2014 5:51 a.m.
But we typically try to avoid the whole Detroit Metro, rust belt area when we travel to MI, which is a beautiful state once one crosses the Bay City bridge.— December 13, 2014 5:32 a.m.
SeaWorld president out; stock rises
There's no recovery until I can get a home mortgage with just my signature, if were shooting for pre-2007 conditions. But $2.70 gas ain't bad! Now if we can just get the grocery industry to give us back a standard 16 oz of canned whatever and sell us a full 1/2 gallon of ice cream, everything would be fine.— December 13, 2014 5:08 a.m.

The Reader's headline writers come up with the most clever headlines, always an improvement on whatever I have submitted. Aw, to be a comedy writer . . . http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/d…— December 13, 2014 4:56 a.m.
Perhaps contract with Sheriff's Dept. as NCTD has done for their track and right-of-way patrols. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/d…— December 9, 2014 11:37 a.m.
Why more people leave than enter San Diego
You all are forgetting the key factor, you just can't get cheap three rolled tacos with gauc outside of SoCal. That's why we stay.— December 5, 2014 10:47 a.m.
Lost GoPro underwater for a year
Update: The camera was returned to its owner, according to finder John LaGrange. The owner saw similar coverage on FOX5 news and contacted them. FB friend Dale Porter - appointing you FB King of Know-it-Alls when it comes to drones. BTW, my friend has a very high end one that does make its own adjustments to unexpected weather - sudden changes in wind speed and direction, thus avoiding operator error in not responding quick enough to keep from crashing.— November 30, 2014 7:47 p.m.
So in the words of TV's Archie Bunker, "Shad up youz." Thanks for reading. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 30, 2014 7:33 p.m.
Walmart protest a call to unionize
I believe the "union" concept in China and Mexico is much different than here in the U.S. I doubt a communist government working in a capitalist global economy would ever allow unions, as we know then here in the U.S.— November 30, 2014 7:17 p.m.
East Coast Pizza open in Hillcrest
Every New Yawker says its the water that makes their east coast slices great. If that's true, why aren't San Diego's New Yawk-style pizza places bringing in water trucks? BTW - you New Yawkers give yourselves up when trying to be all SoCal, yet still calling it a "pie." A pizza is not a pie, just as Taco Bell doesn't serve Mexican food.— November 24, 2014 8:58 a.m.
