Sigh… Remember lowering gas prices?

The real issue is that every drop of American oil is brokered on the world market. American oil should go to American's first. At whatever price the market will bear. Then sell the surplus, I have no problem with oil companies making money. Combined local, state, and federal governments make more $/gal than any oil company does. I had a Sinclair dealer in L.A. (Yes there really are Sinclair Green Dinosaur stations in SoCal - 7 of them) that when prices go down, the oil companies already have a predetermined price that it will rise back up to - 25 cents/gal more than before it dropped. What amazes me is that it took a little under a month for prices to go down 10 cents/gal., and then in one night, those reductions are gone. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2015/j…

What's poppin? Not corn

I think now, which all the hardware stores losing their right to provide free popcorn, there is a market for a popcorn vendor, just like soda and snack vending machine operators. Then the individual stores wouldn't be hassled by the food police. The vendor would have the health permits, licenses, etc. Actually Crown ACE hardware has about 15 stores in SD County, they could probably do it on their own, and then advertise "The only hardware stores with pop corn - ACE is the place." Or maybe bring back those old bubble-topped popcorn vending machines, except they used week-old bagged pop corn which one can still buy at Smart & Final. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2015/j…

Following up on this story, the next day, Sat. Jan 17, Vons went back up because the other stations in the area did not follow them downward as was expected. Why sell it for $2.09 when their other 4 competitors are at $2.14. National trends are that gas price may have reached the bottom with several states now reporting increases. So we may not see under $2.00/gal gas in San Diego, especially with $ .71 in taxes per gallon, and a new 10 cent/gal. tax being added gradually over the next year. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2015/j…

Maybe I scanned this story too quickly, but I'm I to understand the SUHSD wants to develop property? As in get into the real estate biz? School districts are not in the business of playing developer, just as politicians should not be left on their own to negotiate with multimillion dollar pro sports teams. Each are out of their league, and their minds, if they think those negotiations with the big boys will ever turn out well for the "people" they represent. Just ask Susan Golding.
