Serious supporters of Sweetwater trustee Pearl Quiñones
Wow I feel like i am in New York City in 1950 and the Bonifilla famiglia is trying to control the city!! What is going on with South Bay education!! Jimmy two fingers should be ashamed of himself, and Pearl remember that who you associate yourself with speaks volumes about your character!!— January 17, 2013 6:57 a.m.
Sweetwater University to “Open” Soon?
Michael Clifford with a Del Mar address? Thats close to La Jolla right? If I recall one of Brand's buddies who was appointed to the Oversight Committee, and is part of an investing program that gives students cash, is from La Jolla. Isnt Brands 'Chief of Staff', the guy Brand partnered with in the failed bank, from La Jolla also? Smells a little fishy to me. With one JC, and 3major universities within a 25 mile radius of this district, he chooses some unknown school with a poor track. Dont our district students deserve better? Dont they at least warrant National University? Based on Brands track record, i would not be surprised if there is some sort of connection between Brand and this Clifford character. Hopefully Susan will have the resources to thoroughly investigate this university and Clifford. I assure you my SUHSD children will not be attending this 'university'.— November 29, 2012 7:12 a.m.
Mayor Cox Cozy with Chula Vista Developer
Where to begin with the questionable sometimes idiotic decisions made in this City of ours. Gateway II - what a disaster. Had a client with a restaurant here. He was promised a 95% occupancy rate in the building. Its never even come close. Thank goodness for the DA's office or it would be empty. So much for tax revenue being generated! What about the 3rd Ave improvements between H and E Streets. I know not a lot of City money is not being used, but is one lane each way, slower traffic, wider side walks and a center median really going to drive more business into the area? Make it a destination? I own a business here, and i hope so - but i seriously doubt it. And judging by the article in this same paper about another Otay Ranch Mall business closing, East and West CV may not be too different after all, at least from a business perspective.— November 27, 2012 4:31 p.m.

Sweetwater’s Ed Brand Seeks to Remove Committee Members
Sjtorres, please look for me at Mondays board meeting. I am usually there and im sure if you ask Ed Brand or one of the Trustees, they will point me out. I really do want to speak with you. Let me know if you are interested.— October 13, 2012 1:42 p.m.

Is All Quiet on the Sweetwater Union High School District Front?
Very sad news indeed. My daughter attended Sails for a bit and it did wonders for her. Keep in mind these recent announcements are based on last years results. Eastlake High has again taken the district lead, but for how long? With 40 to 50 kids in some classes due to open boundaries, next year will be very telling for Eastlake. The same will be true for the entire district. Think about this: open boundaries takes the best students away from schools in PI, further sending them into a death spiral. Overcrowded classes overburden those few schools not in PI, causing their overall scores to drop. If this trend continues, over the long run we could have allschools in the district in PI. But Brand will not care as he will be long gone! His short term solutions to a long term problem are not the answers!— October 13, 2012 12:29 p.m.
Sweetwater’s Ed Brand Seeks to Remove Committee Members
Sjtorres, i take absolute exception to your comment. I encourage to contact me immediately to provide your proof. I am the longest tenured Prop O committee member (3.5 years), and was the chair of the committee from april 2011 to June 2012. If you have the courage and proof to speak with me contact me. I would be interested in hearing and seeing your proof! Or are you like The Rostra who likes to throw flaming spears with no regard for the truth?! In my time on the committee, i have never once been asked by any teacher or union member to support anything on their behalf, nor take a public or private position on their behalf! I have never even been approached by the Union! As Chair of the committee, i was approached by Ed Brand to support the districts use of prop o funds for district operating expenses. He even provided me legal opinions that he said supported his position and asked me to take a public position that i supported this! He and Diane Russo took me to lunch for a coke and a smile to convince me to support this. He called me on numerous occassions to convince me to support this. When i refused, he told me the district would just have to use Mello Roos money for this - which they are now doing! So sjtorres, who is the real hack trying to run the committee? Again, expose your facts and be man (or woman) enough to contact me to support your blatently false statement!— October 13, 2012 12:21 p.m.
Nudie Bar Opens Across Street from Chula Vista’s Bayfront
Jayallen excellent points. What about a background check on the owners of the business? That probably would have tipped the City off! Sounds like the City got lazy and now are trying to get horses back in the barn! Cmon City leaders and council members this is another black eye to our city. And we wonder why we get no respect down here. Seems like a bunch of nincompoops are running the city!!— October 10, 2012 9:26 p.m.
