Tijuana curio shops struggle to stay in business
What a shame! Many of us local San Diegans spent our youth on "The Revo" carousing and causing mayhem and havoc at bars like 6th Ave Tillys, TJ Tillys, The Margarita Bar, The Long Bar, Rio Ritas, Mr Crowns, etc, etc. heck, you didnt even need to be 18, and any ID, fake or real, was accepted. Good times!!— May 16, 2013 3:56 p.m.
Sweetwater cheer coaches seek pay from district
Great to see new faces on this site! This is a microcosm of the poor leadership in this district. How can very basic HR hiring rules be circumvented? How can state wage laws be circumvented? Only in a district with such poor leadership. I blame Ed Brand for this, i blame the board of trustees for this! It is an absolute embarrassment to our community that this district is so poorly run. These young ladies need to be paid, and Montgomery nee to get their cheerleading squad back!!— May 9, 2013 7:45 p.m.
Montgomery Adult School’s last Viva Vida conference?
Anniej, great idea about school site council meetings. The only problem is the audience at these meetings. I am on the school site council at Eastlake High. It consists of 3 parents, 4 students and 4 teachers, with an AP and the Principal. This is really not the target audience we are shooting for here. A better audience, where more parents attend, would be the PTA, DELAC, and DAC. These are committees/groups with more parents involved. If we could get folks that are up to speed on these issues to attend these meetings at various schools, there may be a better impact.— May 2, 2013 8:58 a.m.
Montgomery Adult School’s last Viva Vida conference?
Unfortunately, all that McCann, Cartmill and Ricasa did was talk about how they value Adult Ed/ROP/CTE, but actions are truly louder than words. Being from our community, they should understand that these programs are a lifeline for many families. But alas, their ties to Brand are stronger than their true concern for our community! 2014 will be a critical year for this District and Community; election of 3 seats (Ricasa, Cartmill and McCann), trial for those indicted (Cartmill, Ricasa, Quinones and Lopez). We need to keep these stories in front of our community so we can reform this District with an entirely new board. This is the only way we will get rid of the stench coming from the superintendents office!!— April 27, 2013 2:44 p.m.
Another Sweetwater board meeting mired in disagreement
Visdu you make great points! You will likey see tighter legislation soon. That is a point a few Senators made ~ better legislation to require and prohibit certain acts.— April 17, 2013 4:09 p.m.
Another Sweetwater board meeting mired in disagreement
I just testified before the CA Senate Education Committee on bond oversight. Sweetwater was a hot topic of conversation among the Senators. They are clearly aware that tighter laws need to be on the books to oversee district bond programs as districts like Sweetwater can't control themselves. What is sad is thhat the Senators view Sweetwater as the poster child for what is wrong with school districts. Legislation will help, but rogue leadership is the real problem here!— April 17, 2013 4:06 p.m.
Sweetwater District Leaving The CIF San Diego Section?
Note that Ed Brand and William McGlouhglin will be presenting to San Diego CIF their proposal to leave CIF at the CIF Board of Governers meeting this Wednesday at 9 am. See link below http://www.cifsds.org/images/Executive%20Committi…— April 9, 2013 6:47 a.m.
Sweetwater District Leaving The CIF San Diego Section?
Gang, here is the Districts official position on this. I believe it is an outright lie that the district is merely studying it! The CIF San Diego section says Sweetwater will try to get out before the school year ends. Once again, the District is caught with their pants down and are trying to back pedal with more lies on top of lies! Statement re: New CIF Section Over the course of the past several months, the Sweetwater Union High School District, has been exploring the idea of creating CIF Section 11. The possible creation of the new section would be done for the ensuring competitiveness among local student athletes, for stronger local governance of the section and for increased financial stability. Although the idea has been mentioned for several years, over the past several months, Sweetwater has worked with other potential partner districts, local elected officials and with the CIF San Diego Section on the viability of this proposal. Because this is in the exploratory phase, no final decisions have been made. If this proposal would move towards actual implementation, Sweetwater and its partner districts would work with the community and our respective Board of Trustees to ensure that the process is done properly and has the support of all those that would be impacted. As we move forward through this process, information will be made available to the community.— April 6, 2013 7:42 a.m.
Strange South Bay Bedfellows
The only advantage that Casteneda has is that he has name recognition in the South Bay. Lorena is a bit of an outsider down here, regardless of whether Greg Cox endorses her or not. We voters in the South Bay are a bit off our rockers anyways, evidenced by the re election of 2 indicted Sweetwater Union High School District Trustees in the November election.— April 5, 2013 3:09 p.m.
Sweetwater school district board seeks to silence opposition
Visduh, lets not forget City Council members in Chula Vista! Not only is the mainstream media staying away from this district, all local politicians are as well. SD County Board Supv Greg Cox, CV Mayor Cheryl Cox, IB and NC Mayors, IB, CV and NC city council - where are they? I have not heard any of them speak out against the embarassment that is this Supt and Trustees! I cant imagine Brand holds any sway over them, more likely this district is so cancerous they just want to stay away!!— March 16, 2013 5:45 p.m.
