Tilted Kilt waitresses and other San Diego bar girls sound off
I must be missing something. smh, ridiculous.— September 4, 2012 9:48 p.m.
Tales of an Insomniac: The First Night in San Diego
hmmm, how is having a stroke of bad luck, seemingly caused by one's self lead to a suicidal thought? i think it's a rather big jump... and if what the others are saying, is true (personally, i didn't see the sociopathic tendencies) then the writer seems to be rather narcissistic, life alteringly so. If not that, then perhaps a mood disorder... Amin, if these mood swings are really common in your life, let me suggest u talk with a professional about them.— June 15, 2012 2:31 p.m.
Woman beaten on 4th and Washington
the adrenaline surges sound like ptsd. what you witnessed and endured and did is traumatic. also, thank you for doing the right thing. and thank you for standing up for Rose, those in need. ... Regardless of how urban and trendy and hip and whathaveyou Hillcrest may be, there are a ton of shady activities that go on. i've been more spooked/creeped out there than anywhere else.— June 6, 2012 3:04 p.m.
Rock Church’s Pastor McPherson on TV Too Much?
so, he said what he had been doing wasn't wrong, it served a purpose and then he lectured his congregation for being judgemental. *facepalm* i won't speak to whether what he did was right or wrong re: Seau's memorial. But to make the day's sermon about not judging and chastising a congregation for speaking up screams of hypocrisy, self promotion and selfishness! ugh. I've never liked the Rock, and I especially don't like Miles McPherson now, not that I ever did... I don't like his theology.— May 23, 2012 2:34 p.m.
La Fuente After a Year of Infamy
there are tons of late night choices for mexican food in hillcrest! lalo's is across the street from la fuente. it stays open until about 2 or so. (i forget. i was a bit gone when i went.) Porkylandia doesn't stay open late, or ever from what i kept seeing for months. but it has THE BEST CALIFORNIA BURRITO i have ever tasted. and i've tasted a lot so this has to be included. porkyland is in the strip mall on university between 7th and 6th. additionally, there's pancho's on 4th. and that's delicious food. the one downside is that they only have one drink size. aaaand on washington by bronze pizza there are two different taco shops. both are in the corner of a parking lot on the south side of washington. i've only been to one of these, on new yrs so i can't speak for the other one. both, i believe, are cash only and both are open late. la fuente isn't good mexican food but it seems to be the place for people to go to at the end a night out. oh. and mama testa but i've never been there.— March 8, 2012 2:54 p.m.
Neighbors have been calling the San Diego police for four years
fyi, reader, the story's cut off at the penultimate paragraph in the print copy. which is tres' sad. also, i really want to find this neighborhood! mostly for my own curiosity.— March 7, 2012 1:38 p.m.
Freebirds World Burrito
hmmm… I went on the day it opened and was overwhelmed by the choices. then again, I'm horribly indecisive when it comes ordering food. If anything, i'd say free birds is a chipotle alternative rather than a chipotle alternative. the burritos starting out are more expensive but if u make it a meal/combo with a soda and chips (and a cookie/brownie, if I remember correctly) then it totally comes out to a better deal than a burrito from chipotle with chips and a drink. also, making artwork from the leftover foil is way cute!— January 10, 2012 11:34 p.m.
San Diego Pastor Calls Tim Tebow "God's Quarterback"
i need to remember what section i'm reading before i read an article. i nearly had a heartattack reading the 'pastor's' interpretation of Corinthians.— November 28, 2011 3:53 p.m.
Meth Still the Number One Drug Of Choice At County Treatment Centers
I wonder if the treatment center numbers line up with arrest numbers? Are meth users more frequently arrested for drug related charges? And are there really more people addicted to meth than alcohol or other substances? Meth is horrible, sure. And one meth addict is one too many. I'm just thinking, the numbers might be so high for the treatment centers because abusing meth isn't as widely accepted as alcohol is. Like, how sexual abuse/molestation numbers are only based on reported cases… I wonder how many more people out there are also hooked on meth and don't get help. And is this number higher than the number of unreported alcoholics?— October 27, 2011 8:59 p.m.
Is He a Citizen?
oh man, a million cover stories can be done up on the topic… and now for my thoughts: people be tripping if they think i'm gonna vote to lose my citizenship. (re: amending the 14th amendment) my brother's might be for it, but then again, their conservatives and i'm a bleeding heart liberal. and how unpatriotic are the doctors and hospitals that help any woman in labor without checking their documentation. isn't america's wellbeing more important than the individual's!?!? actually my socialist leaning would command a yes to the above question; except for the fact that if a significant number of our individuals are weakened, then the entire system is weakened. it's ridiculous to hear people say that if they could cross legally then everyone should, like Maria in the story. she was a nurse in Mexico: she had a job, she had an income, she didn't have an overwhelming desperate need to move countries. desperation makes people do crazy, crazy, desperate things. in the end, I think refried's right. the us needs a solution to the undocumented immigrants currently in country. and, id add, mexico needs a solution that focuses on self reliance within its country, not the US's… and the countries seriously need to improve the immigration process. or even just the come over the imaginary line and visit for a while process (i.e. visas and passports).— September 26, 2011 2:34 p.m.
